The Testament of Sherlock Holmes ("The Last Will of Sherlock Holmes") is a multi-platform computer game in the detective quest and adventure genres, developed by Frogwares Game Development. The publisher in Russia was "1C-SoftClub". The game was released in September 2012.
In "The Last Will of Sherlock Holmes," the famous detective Holmes and his loyal partner Dr. Watson face a new series of mysterious crimes that, at first glance, seem completely unrelated to each other. But Mr. Holmes' intuition does not deceive him, and he realizes that all the troubles happening around are links in one chain. Moreover, someone is actively trying to set him up, so successfully that police surveillance begins. The first "alarm bell" was a scandal involving a counterfeit necklace. Sherlock found the missing valuable item, returned it to its aristocratic owner, and the next day found himself on the front pages of all London newspapers. The detective was accused of having appropriated an expensive item during the discovery of the necklace while handing a fake and worthless item to its rightful owner. Sherlock, of course, did nothing of the sort, but by that point, almost no one believed him: the facts were against him. Meanwhile, the mysterious malefactor continued to try to tarnish Mr. Holmes' good name, successfully continuing his subversive activities. So successfully, in fact, that even Watson began to suspect Holmes.
So, a few words about what The Testament of Sherlock Holmes can offer to potential players. It should be noted that Frogwares studio is particularly skilled in developing and releasing quests, so there are no complaints about the storyline. One would break their leg trying to unravel the intricate web of constantly arising enigmas and secrets. But The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is not a dull and slow-paced quest for those "over fifty"; it's a rather lively adventure with unexpected twists, subtle English humor, and a lot of grim content. In The Testament of Sherlock Holmes, one must dissect corpses, roam graveyards with a shovel for selfish reasons, and rummage through morgues in search of key evidence.
Since the main character in "The Last Will of Sherlock Holmes" is a genius of deductive reasoning, players have to solve crimes in much the same way. This can be done thanks to Mr. Holmes' notebook, where he records all the facts. Based on them, one can draw certain conclusions and formulate preliminary conclusions. It's not that easy, but it is quite interesting and even engaging.
"The Last Will of Sherlock Holmes" also features various puzzles and mini-games that can diversify the gameplay. The graphics may not boast any particular beauties, but everything is charming and pleasant enough. Additionally, the quest offers several camera modes: third-person view, first-person view, and a static camera. Overall, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes turned out to be a very solid adventure, though it doesn’t bring anything new or revolutionary. But against the backdrop of what is currently being released in the genre, the game looks simply brilliant.
