Runaway 3: A Twist of Fate is a computer game in the adventure quest genre, developed by Péndulo Studios, which is responsible for the previous installments of the famous Runaway series (A Road Adventure and The Dream of the Turtle). The global publisher is Focus Home Interactive. The publisher in Russia is the company “Novy Disk.” The game was released in the fall of 2009, and the localized version came out in the summer of 2010. Also, in 2010, a version of A Twist of Fate for the Nintendo DS platform was released.
The first two parts of the game were good, worthy quests, but by the time Runaway 2: The Dream of The Turtle was released, it became clear that something needed to change. Fortunately, this was understood not only by gamers and genre enthusiasts in general but also by the developers from the Pendulo Studios team. Yes, in Runaway: A Twist of Fate, you can still encounter both Brian Basco and Gina, but Basco is no longer the main character of the Runaway series—this honorary role has passed to Gina. And in general, Brian in Runaway: A Twist of Fate died under unexplained circumstances. Six months before the events described in the third part of the game, Basco was arrested on suspicion of murdering a rather influential military man on one of the Hawaiian islands. But instead of serving time in prison, Brian received a straitjacket and a room with barred windows. In simpler terms, he was committed to a psychiatric hospital. There, the poor guy stayed for a long time until he attempted to escape one day. An attempt is not a trial, but Basco's head was severed by a propeller blade. Such is the sad story.
Despite the seemingly proven fact of an accident, Gina does not believe that everything is so simple. Nor does she believe that Brian is guilty of anything. More precisely, that he was guilty. She conducts her own investigation to uncover all the circumstances of the case. Naturally, the heroine encounters inexplicable phenomena and mysteries at almost every turn, is pursued by mysterious individuals, and in general—strangeness and secrets are everywhere. Fortunately, Gina is assisted by her new partner—a short, strange-looking, and quite eccentric psychopath. With him, for example, things aren't so scary, and he often provides comic relief.
It should be noted that the atmosphere in Runaway: A Twist of Fate has changed dramatically—no bright colors and tropics, but a lot of gloom, alleys, graveyards, psychiatric hospitals, and crazies. The third part of Runaway has externally transformed into a true thriller, but A Twist of Fate hasn't lost its signature humor with amusing references to various real-life, or even still-existing, characters, and the gags remain intact. Runaway: A Twist of Fate is divided into six equal chapters with such 'flashbacks.' The action of the game takes place not only in the present, where Gina seeks answers to her questions, but also in the past—before the moment of Brian Basco's demise. Yes, he can actually be seen in Runaway: A Twist of Fate (he has changed quite a bit, by the way), and not only seen but also inhabited, even though he is now positioned as a 'supporting actor.' This is a good chance to say goodbye to the old-timer Brian, as he is soon to disappear from the Runaway series. Although... This is an adventure quest, anything can happen here.
