Tips for Beginners

In two days, our dear [Dark Souls](/games?search=Dark Souls) will be released on PC. A lot of people have been waiting for it, many have pre-ordered, and some are waiting for discounts.

But to ensure you don't die right away in [Dark Souls](/games?search=Dark Souls), here are a few simple tips:

Tip One - Take Care of Yourself.

Remember, you must always take care of yourself. Think of yourself as the character you created; love him, praise him, dress him well. If something breaks, fix it now, not when you’re about to be killed.

Death in the game will come to you often, but you will always respawn at the Bone Fire. The Bone Fire is your save point, where you can do many things, level up, repair your weapons, store items in the box, but all of this will cost souls and "humanity." These bonfires are scattered throughout each location, but to reach them, you'll have to go through a lot; some bonfires are even hidden.

I also want to assure you that you have health potions. And currently, you have 10; in the future, you’ll be able to increase the amount you can carry. Potions can only be replenished at the Bone Fire. Think wisely; if you’re not too injured, maybe wait instead of drinking one now?

But remember, all actions depend on you; you are that character behind the screen.

Tip Two - Don’t Rush In.

There are many enemies, some strong, some weak... but each of them is ready to tear you to shreds! Look closely, do you see a crowd of enemies? Maybe it’s better to go around them, or lure them out one by one? Don’t rush into the crowd screaming, "Everyone will die, and I’ll survive."

Sometimes, in certain places, there will be a monster stronger than all others and even you; you should prepare seriously before heading to it, and consider if going that way is even necessary since there might be another path.

Tip Three - Look Around, Learn, and Remember.

This might be the most important rule. Many things are hidden in the world of [Dark Souls](/games?search=Dark Souls), and there’s something called... a visored wall. You walk and see walls, but you don't even suspect that behind one of them lies treasure (or even an entire location!) To remove a visored wall, you just need to hit it well. Also, many things can be found if you look at the right angle; many things might be above you, but you just need to drop to the right place.

Remember... remember everything you see, where the enemies are, where they might pop out... because it will help you if you die; it will make it easier to get through next time. You should also remember the bosses' moves so that you don’t fall into their super attack next time.

Also, there are wonderful enemies like the Mimic. What is a mimic? A half chest - HALF BLOODTHIRSTY MONSTER! Yes, there are chests that can eat you alive and not choke. The simplest advice regarding them is to hit... hit the chests!

Tip Four - Beware.

Beware of everything you see, always be on guard, never let your guard down, as enemies are always lurking. They might jump on you from above... they might pop out from that corner... or they might already be behind you!

Many enemies can deliver a special attack; if you see your opponent doing something unusual, maybe it's best to step back or block?

Tip Five - Good for Good

NPCs also play an important role in your character's life; some can even be evil. Talk to them, as they are as alive as people. White Phantoms will also help you a lot; they will gladly come into your world and slay all the bad guys.

And if you kill all the blacksmiths? Well, you're out of luck; no one will upgrade your weapons, which means you'll have a tough time. The game also features hints left by other players, which are not hard to notice. Some of those can be very helpful to you.

NPCs will help you, gift you, sell to you, if you return the same to them.

In hard times... many need help.
