The Dawn of Samurai — a new campaign for [Total War: SHOGUN 2](/games?search=Total War: SHOGUN 2).
In the new campaign, events occurring 400 years before the civil war that underlies the plot of SHOGUN 2 are recreated. The Dawn of Samurai tells the story of the Genpei War — a conflict between the six houses of the Taira, Minamoto, and Fujiwara clans, which led to the establishment of the first shogunate and the rise of the samurai as the ruling class.

Play a new campaign for SHOGUN 2 set in 12th century Japan.
The Dawn of Samurai campaign is designed for both single-player and multiplayer modes — against each other or cooperatively.
- 3 new families comprising 6 houses.
Each house features its own set of traits that define its playstyle.
- 16 new types of land units — swordsmen, archers, spearmen, and cavalry.
Among them:
Foot samurai — masters of both the bow and sword; they are deadly in both ranged and close combat. Their units may not be the most numerous but are perhaps the most effective. Additionally, foot samurai are clad in sturdy armor, providing robust protection against arrows and sword strikes.
Support troops with swords — these fierce fearless warriors can carve bloody paths through enemy battle lines with powerful two-handed swords.
- 4 heroes — sohei with naginata, sohei with tetsubo, mounted samurai, and onna-bugyō.
Onna-bugyō — these mounted warriors armed with bows and naginata are deadly in close combat. One should never underestimate women...
Sohei with tetsubo — huge clubs tipped with steel spikes become deadly weapons in the hands of fierce monk warriors.
- 10 new types of ships with 3 new abilities ('Banzai!', 'Whistling Arrows', and 'Troop Gathering').
- 4 new agents with unique skill progressions:
Shirabyōshi - their main talent is seduction. Such lovely dancers can convince anyone to join your side. Moreover, shirabyōshi can entertain nobles, increasing the growth speed of allied cities. Friendly generals are also not overlooked — shirabyōshi can dance for them right on the battlefield, thus boosting their loyalty while also countering the influence of enemy agents.
Jūnsatsushi maintain the loyalty and discipline of our generals, increase the house's income, and combat corruption. Furthermore, their responsibilities include defending cities and armies from enemy sabotage while they are present. One of the main advantages of jūnsatsushi is their ability to sway neutral and enemy cities along with their garrisons to your side, as well as bribing enemy agents.
Monomi are both assassins and spies, and saboteurs, as well as scouts. Additionally, they can create criminal networks in castle cities, which in turn expands the visibility range across your entire province.
Sō can convert people to Buddhism, inspire friendly armies, and quell discontented subjects. Magnificent orators, they can also demoralize the enemy, thwart planned bribery, persuade an enemy agent to abandon their work, or sow discord in an enemy province.
