Battlefield 3 is a first-person shooter, the eleventh game in the series, and a direct sequel to Battlefield 2. The game's plot unfolds in 2014. Staff Sergeant Blaber and his squad of five are tasked with a critical mission to locate and extract a group of American researchers headed to a suspected chemical weapons development site in the Middle East.
Battlefield has always been known for its grand battle scenes, which has made the franchise popular among gamers. Players still have access to three main modes: single-player, cooperative gameplay, and multiplayer. Among other innovations in Battlefield 3 are the introduction of rocket packs, and support for 64 players in the multiplayer mode for PC. Due to limited power, the versions for Xbox 360 and PS3 use smaller maps.
The action in Battlefield 3 takes place in Paris, Tehran, Sarajevo, New York City, and other picturesque cities and locations across the planet. Typically, battles occur in industrial settings, on streets, or in city centers, while open spaces are suitable for combat involving military vehicles. The game introduces a battle log, a cross-platform social service, built-in text and voice communication, as well as the ability to join games directly during combat.
