Borderlands is a first-person shooter (FPS) and RPG game developed by Gearbox Software.
The plot of the game is simple: we arrive on the planet Pandora with the goal of finding the legendary alien treasure vault – the Vault. Players can choose from 4 characters: Mordecai as the Hunter, Roland as the Soldier, Lilith as the Siren, and Brick. The active abilities of all 4 classes can be developed and used in various ways for different purposes.
Borderlands is primarily a shooter. However, the RPG element is equally important, giving the game a unique charm. By completing missions and defeating monsters, we earn experience, which is needed for leveling up. With each level, players gain health and the ability to develop or unlock new class abilities, which are divided into three different specializations for each character. However, it is not possible to fully upgrade a character since the game has a level cap.
A distinctive feature of Borderlands is the variety of weapons. Throughout the game, we encounter new and unique types of weapons, with no end in sight. The game utilizes a "Procedural Content Creation System" whose capabilities only expand due to the various possible effects on items and weapons. It is worth mentioning that Borderlands supports cooperative gameplay for up to 4 players. Thanks to the diversity of classes and their specializations, teamwork plays an important role in the gameplay. Additionally, players can compete against each other in 1v1 or 2v2 modes. After completing the game for the first time, players can start again with a leveled-up character, but the game's difficulty increases several times. One could even say that the game completely transforms.
Such gameplay is particularly interesting for cooperative play. The game is done in an interesting graphic style that perfectly fits the overall atmosphere.
Four expansions have been released for the game: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, and Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution. All these expansions are quite large and add new storylines, items and weapons, locations, and more to the game.
