The game's basis lies in the "Cthulhu Mythos" by Howard Phillips Lovecraft and the legendary tabletop RPG "Call of Cthulhu" by "Chaosium". Players take on the role of Edward Pierce, a war veteran and private detective. He is hired to investigate the unusual tragic death of the renowned artist Sarah Hawkins and her family, which occurred on an isolated island ominously named Darkwater, located off the coast of New England. As the investigation progresses, the protagonist encounters phenomena that inflict deep moral scars and irreparable damage to his psyche. The closer he gets to the Great Old One's domain (Cthulhu), the thinner the line separating him from descending into complete and irreversible madness becomes. To uncover the truth, Edward must literally walk a razor's edge.
