Drakensang: The River Of Time is a computer RPG developed by the German studio Rabon Labs. The global publisher is Digital Entertainment Pool, while in Russia the game is released under the patronage of “1C-SoftClub” and Snowball Studios. Drakensang: The River Of Time is a prequel, set more than 20 years before the events of Drakensang: The Dark Eye.
Nothing fundamentally new has appeared in Drakensang: The River Of Time. Players travel across the game map, fight, complete quests, and engage in various activities typical of any respectable role-playing game. Despite some bias against it, Drakensang: The River Of Time is a very worthy RPG. Even at the character creation stage, the game offers many options. You can choose gender, race, development parameters, and one of the available classes - from warrior to mage. The chosen class determines the gameplay style, and although Drakensang: The River Of Time is relatively linear, each new game can play out a bit differently.
The events of Drakensang: The River Of Time take place in the same region known as Aventuria, but players will not see old locations - the entire world has been redrawn, and quite well, at that. The game has become a little more beautiful and charming compared to Drakensang: The Dark Eye. Players will encounter familiar characters from the previous part - Kiyano, Ardo, Forgrim, and many others, and there will be many plot twists and stories connected to them. Drakensang: The River Of Time can be called a challenging game - there are a lot of various parameters to tinker with as you see fit. So, it’s rather a hardcore game where every fan of such projects can find something interesting. Of course, most races and classes already have their own set of abilities, but each player can create a completely unique character.
If you feel that your main character has some shortcomings - pick companions for your team who could compensate for those weaknesses. Like in Dragon Age: Origin, in particularly challenging situations, you can pause and think about what to do next - switch weapons, devise an action scheme, use a particular potion, and so on. You often have to pause, as our companions, frankly speaking, do not shine with intelligence and follow orders somewhat clumsily. There are simply a vast number of battles in Drakensang: The River Of Time - not a five-minute span passes without someone attacking the player. Some like this, others don’t, but the fact of constant carnage is present.
Despite some shortcomings in the combat system that have smoothly transitioned from Drakensang: The Dark Eye, the game turned out to be very interesting - with a convoluted storyline, a plethora of intriguing quests, and a very beautiful game world. For lovers of relatively hardcore RPGs, Drakensang: The River Of Time is just right.
