EVE Online is a space MMO game with elements of strategy, simulation, and role-playing. It was developed by the Icelandic studio CCP Games in 2003 and was published by Simon & Schuster Interactive until the end of that year. Afterward, the publisher became CCP Games itself. The game client, all expansions, and updates are free. Players only need to pay a monthly subscription.
EVE Online is a unique MMOG in many ways, with an audience of over 300,000 active subscribers. The story of the game unfolds in space thousands of years after the first space flight. Even the galaxy in which the game world exists is many light-years away from ours. In the distant past, humanity discovered a spatial tunnel in space that could transport people and ships to the other side. The tunnel was given the resonant name EVE, and people began to move en masse into the uncharted expanses of space.
Then, as often happens, a cataclysm occurred, severing the connection with the home planet—Earth. Humanity was left alone with its plight, and to survive, they had to cooperate into separate factions, each with its own economy and military power. For a long time, everyone lived in peace until territorial conflicts and claims to resources became the cause of local conflicts that threatened to escalate into something greater.
There are a total of 5 races in EVE Online: the Gallente Federation, the Minmatar Republic, the Amarr Empire, the Caldari State, and the Jovian Empire. The last race is unplayable and governed by NPCs. Players can choose one of 4 playable factions, each possessing unique characteristics, spaceships, and combat styles. When creating a character, players choose their race, appearance, gender, and allegiance to a specific faction. At the beginning of their journey, players receive a weak ship, incapable of withstanding stronger space machines. After a training period, players are free to do anything they want, and fly wherever their heart desires. They can hunt pirates or raise the banner of the Jolly Roger, or become a long-distance hauler, trader, diplomat, or miner. Later, they can join one of the in-game alliances.
If in the early game there was a sort of "cold war" between factions, then after the release of expansions and updates, the war began in earnest. The factions split into two camps—the Caldari with the Amarr Empire on one side, and the Gallente Federation with the Minmatar Republic on the other. Everyone can contribute to the fight against the enemy by joining the battle for territory and resources.
