Space Rangers is a game by the Russian studio Elemental Games in the genres of RPG, arcade, turn-based strategy, and text quest. The game's action takes place in a distant future, where the galaxy is inhabited by five intelligent races that have formed a relatively peaceful union. However, the peace created by these intelligent races is under threat due to the invasion of an unknown hostile race called the Klisans. The player takes on the role of a member of the Rangers organization, created specifically to combat the Klisans.
At the beginning of the game, we can choose a race and specialization; however, specialization mainly affects only the starting conditions. Depending on our actions, we can become anyone from a trader to a pirate.
It's also necessary to mention the five races represented in the game.
Malokis - A race of warlike, physically strong beings but not very intelligent. They enjoy everything related to war, including piracy, and they cannot stand science and art.
Pelengs - A race of cunning four-armed amphibians. For them, profit is paramount, making them more inclined to piracy, fraud, extortion, and anything immoral. Only this race has legalized piracy.
Humans - that's us, so we all know. They have excelled the most in diplomacy and politics. Moreover, the game mentions that all humans are Russian.
Feyans - purple humanoids whose appearance is clearly inspired by the most common image of aliens. The most technically advanced race, they constantly research and discover new technologies that are useful to the player.
Gaalts - the oldest race, peaceful and trying to avoid any armed conflicts. They treat all races equally well.
Throughout the game, we can change the character's race if we wish; technologies even allow us to do so.
Players have a lot of freedom in their actions. We can immediately set off to save the galaxy from the Klisans or attend to our own matters: text quests, various protection, transport, and destruction missions, and of course, we can engage in piracy. The text quests in this game are particularly interesting; plus, there's the option to write quests ourselves. Piracy and other crimes in the game are usually punished by imprisonment, which is also a text quest.
In the galaxy, we have access to dozens of populated star systems with their own planets and space bases.
There are only four types of space bases, and each offers something useful to the player.
Ranger Center - here we can turn in protoplasm, the substance that drops from defeated Klisans.
Scientific Base - here we can improve our equipment.
Military Base - provides equipment for a new rank.
Pirate Base - we can change our race and much more.
As seen from all of the above, there is plenty for the player to do, so few will get bored as a ranger.
