Lineage 2 is a MMORPG, released on October 1, 2003, by the South Korean company NCsoft, with millions of registered users worldwide. According to NCsoft, the number of user accounts currently stands at around 20 million. A localized Russian version of Lineage 2 was released on July 17, 2008. Currently, all servers are free, without mandatory monthly subscriptions. However, players can purchase a premium account, which grants them double experience.
The world of Lineage 2 features a vast map with numerous towns, castles, and locations, all situated in the territory of Elmoreden, divided between two kingdoms – the Kingdom of Elmore (capital: Rune) and the Kingdom of Aden (capital: Aden). There are 6 playable races – humans, orcs, light and dark elves, as well as the recently introduced race, the Kamael.
At levels twenty, forty, and seventy-six, players acquire professions and develop the class chosen at level twenty. Furthermore, at level 75, players can obtain a subclass and acquire abilities from another race's class. Players can also achieve Nobility and become Heroes.
Leveling up can be done by killing game mobs. With each level, the experience gained from defeating a mob decreases, and even with intensified "grinding," reaching a new level can take months.
Lineage 2 is a relatively team-oriented game. With each level, playing and gaining experience alone becomes increasingly difficult. Mobs become more dangerous, and there is almost always a shortage of money for equipment. Therefore, players have several options – join a party of other characters or join a clan, which can assist with "leveling up" the character as well as providing equipment, weapons, and money. There is a developed clan system, where clans can unite into alliances. Battles between clan groups are the main form of "entertainment" in the game. When defeating opponents in battle, players rarely lose experience, and conflicts can be quite large-scale. Each clan can own its personal castle.
In addition to mob killing, there are also so-called "raids" aimed at taking down bosses. Defeating them rewards players with a considerable amount of adena (in-game currency) and various items – from weapons to powerful magical scrolls.
Despite the game approaching its tenth anniversary, millions of gamers still play it. This is largely because NCsoft continues to release various updates and expansions.

The world of Lineage 2 is designed for player interaction. Solo players have little chance of survival. The chances increase for a team, the more balanced the group is and the higher the understanding level among its members, the better they coordinate and harmonize their actions in battle, the more effectively they utilize the advantages of their chosen class, and mitigate the disadvantages inherent to those classes. There are no limits to improvement, and no restrictions on expressing tactical and leadership talents.
