Royal Quest is a multiplayer online role-playing game from the well-known Russian studio Katauri Interactive. The publisher is the company "1C-SoftClub".
The plot of the game tells the story of a fictional world called Aura, where technology coexists with magic, and exact sciences with alchemy. Life in the kingdom flowed calmly until the appearance of the black alchemists - beings striving to gain control over ailenium, a special and extremely rare mineral with magical properties. With the arrival of the black alchemists in the world, unimaginable monsters and beasts began to appear in the forests, mountains, and deserts, while various calamities began to afflict the kingdom. Linking all the misfortunes to the emergence of the black alchemists, the king decided to gather an army of desperate people with pure hearts and thoughts who could stand against the aggressors.
The global map of Royal Quest is divided into dozens of sectors, each of which is a separate location. To the north and east are swamps and marshes, to the south - hot deserts and black wastelands, while in the central part of the kingdom lies the capital Varlon and relatively calm territories with a temperate climate. Each sector is populated by various monsters, the number of which can sometimes be quite large. Low-level players should not wander too far from the starting locations, as the chance of dying increases several times. In each location, players can find entrances to various caves, buildings, and PvP zones where they can engage in fights and battles. In other cases, players cannot engage in combat, but if they challenge an opponent to a duel or join a guild that is at war, they can fight in almost any terrain. After death, players are transported to the nearest spawn points - infants. These young women are almost found in any location, and if players save their progress with them, they will respawn in the chosen zone next time.
In Royal Quest, there is only one playable race - humans. There are also other races, such as orcs, but players cannot choose to play as them. Characters, landscapes, and buildings are designed in a recognizable style from King's Bounty - a previous game from the developers that has garnered a large army of fans. Royal Quest features an isometric camera, but in some locations (for instance, in Varlon) players can observe events from the character’s perspective.
In the game, players can find 4 playable classes: thief, mage, archer, and swordsman. As they progress, each class can choose a profession. The thief can become a rogue or an assassin, the mage can transform into a warlock or wizard, the archer evolves into a hunter or sniper, while the swordsman "reborns" as a crusader or dark knight. In addition to standard swords, bows, and spears, Royal Quest also includes firearms - rifles, shotguns, etc.
For movement in the world, players can use mounts - riding animals. Swordsmen can utilize their mounts to attack enemies thanks to special skills and talents. Each class featured in the game possesses an extensive tree of various abilities that can be developed in one or several directions. Talent points are awarded after reaching several levels. Each character has 6 attributes that can be developed based on the class requirements and player preferences - strength, endurance, accuracy, luck, intelligence, and agility. Swordsmen need to prioritize distributing points between strength and endurance first, while for the thief, for example, increasing luck (strength and critical hit chance) and agility will be more beneficial.
At first glance, Royal Quest seems like yet another standard MMORPG, but it is not. The game offers many interesting elements that can engage even the most seasoned and fervent online gamer. It is also worth remembering that the project is developed by Katauri Interactive, a studio accustomed to releasing good and high-quality games.
