A dark game set in the universe of "Star Trek" has been announced — Star Trek: Shadow Frontier
The Bloober Team studio, known for the sci-fi horror Cronos: The New Dawn, announced a new game that combines science fiction and dark psychological thriller genres, Star Trek: Shadow Frontier.
The game takes place in the Star Trek universe, with the protagonist being Ro Laren, a former underground terrorist from Bajor who fought for her planet's independence, now a Starfleet officer. As is often the case in Starfleet, she finds herself crashing on a dangerous planet controlled by a mysterious entity.
Throughout the story, Laren will have to use all her skills and Federation technology to survive, as well as fight the demons of her past, since the planet manipulates her memories, distorting Ro's connection to reality.
It is worth noting that Ro Laren was a secondary character in one season of "The Next Generation" (played by Michelle Forbes, who, by the way, will return to voice her in the game), but she left a mark on fans. There were plans to make her one of the central characters in "Deep Space Nine," but due to typical American studio reshuffles and the unwillingness to pay royalties to the writers who created Ro, those plans were scrapped. Instead of Laren, the crew of the space station was joined by Kira Nerys—a fellow Bajoran with a nearly identical backstory (albeit a new character, for whom no one needs to pay).
So, despite seemingly foreign elements to the franchise (there are literally a couple of episodes across all the series that could be loosely considered horror), this project has very good prospects. Bloober Team has already proven their competence not only with Cronos but also with the remake of Silent Hill 2. And the heroine of the game, while not the most well-known character, definitely belongs to that part of Starfleet that deserves a chance for more than what she has received.
