Girls Still Don't Like Gamers
Experts from the dating service Mamba conducted a survey among single Russians to find out which hobbies are considered the most attractive by the opposite sex, and which are not. They also explored how much time and money can be spent on one's hobby without causing jealousy in a partner.
Meaningful Hobbies
It turns out that both men and women are most attracted to partners who are into cooking. In fact, women value this skill even more than men do (43% vs. 36%). In addition to culinary skills, men are also impressed when a girl actively engages in fitness, dancing, and reading a lot. At the same time, a quarter of the respondents noted they would not want to see boxing among the potential girlfriend's interests. They are also wary of ardent female football fans (21%) and women who love shopping (20%). About 17% of men consider hobbies like knitting and embroidery to be unsexy.
Meanwhile, more than a third of single Russian women (35%) would like a man's profile if he shows an active interest in cars. Women are also supportive of their potential partner's love for technology, reading, and investments. Enthusiasts of computer games have less chance of winning over the heart of an attractive lady. This hobby is viewed as off-putting by the majority of surveyed women (42%). Other less attractive hobbies for women include stamp and coin collecting (26%), and they also try to avoid die-hard football fans (22%).
Balancing social media and real life is an important soft skill that is highly valued during dating. It turns out that men are deterred by their partner's interest in blogging. About 15% of respondents said they would not record joint stories and create reels. Moreover, dating a blogger is not on the radar for 20% of surveyed women, so making a good first impression with filter skills and video editing will definitely not work.
When Expenses Don’t Matter
The survey results showed that men are much more lenient about how much time their partner can spend on personal hobbies: 35% of respondents are okay with their girlfriend being immersed in her hobby for up to 4 hours a day. A third of women (31%) would prefer their man not to be away for more than 2 hours a day. At the same time, the vast majority of respondents of both genders are tolerant of any spending their partners make on personal hobbies, as long as it does not affect the couple's standard of living.
Mamba is the largest online platform for new acquaintances in Russia, where more than 60 million people are registered. The service takes into account all the trends in the online dating industry and provides an opportunity for multi-format partner searching. Every day, 3 million people meet on the service, and about 1 million new profiles are registered monthly.
As part of the Mamba study, 20,000 men and women aged 18-40 who use the Mamba app were surveyed. The sample is representative for the territory of the Russian Federation according to sociological tables (confidence level of 95%, margin of error of less than 5%).
The surveyed individuals were asked to name the 3 most attractive hobbies in a potential partner and the 3 least attractive ones, as well as how much time and money a partner can spend without causing discomfort. And whether discomfort from a partner's hobby can lead to a breakup.
