Roadmap for the Il-2 game series for 2026–2027
1C Game Studios has unveiled plans for the next two years for the Il-2 game series. By the end of 2026, the flight simulator "Korea" will add a training mode and leaderboards in multiplayer. Meanwhile, development of the add-on "Odessa and Leningrad: Defense and Liberation" for the previous game in the series, "Il-2: Sturmovik," will be completed by the end of the year.
In the first quarter of 2027, the "Korea" will receive the expansion "Carrier Aviation." Players will be able to take to the skies in five new carrier-based aircraft, accurately recreated based on historical documents, photographs, and technical materials:
- F9F-2 Panther
- F2H-2 Banshee
- AD-4 Skyraider
- F4U-4 Corsair
- FB MK.11 Sea Fury
The expansion will feature both jet and piston-engine aircraft used by the United States and the United Kingdom. Each aircraft will receive historically accurate armament, equipment, and systems for operation aboard aircraft carriers, including folding wings, reinforced landing gear, and arrestor hooks.
In addition to player-controlled aircraft, the expansion will introduce the AI-controlled helicopter HO3S-1 – a naval rescue variant of the Sikorsky S-51/H-5 family.
"Korea: Carrier Aviation" will also add an Essex-class aircraft carrier in post-war SCB-27A modification. This 274-meter-long ship had a displacement of 40,000 tons and could carry up to 80 aircraft.
Other features of the aircraft carrier include:
- Three aircraft elevators connecting the hangar to the flight deck.
- Two forward hydraulic catapults.
- A detailed hangar stretching from bow to stern.
- Historically accurate radar systems and anti-aircraft armament.
Maximum speed of 32 knots, improving conditions for aircraft takeoff and landing.
In the "Great Battles" series, three expansions will be released in 2027. The first one – "Bombers" – will introduce multi-seat bombers and reconnaissance aircraft for the first time in the series.
Four models available at launch:
- Fw-189A-2 Uhu
- A-20G-25 Havoc
- B-25C/D Mitchell
- B-26B Marauder
Each aircraft will feature detailed recreations of all crew workstation interiors, historically accurate defensive armament, bomb sights, bomb load variants, and equipment.
Some aircraft will also be represented in various configurations. The A-20 will include the base A-20G-25, the A-20J with a glass nose and Norden bomb sight, as well as the Soviet modification of a torpedo bomber. The B-25C/D will receive American, British, and Soviet configurations with respective bombs and targeting equipment.
All four aircraft will be integrated into the "Pilot Career" mode. Historically accurate squadrons will be added for the corresponding countries, allowing players to use the new aircraft on both the Eastern and Western Fronts.
Also, in the first half of 2027, collector aircraft P-47 Thunderbolt and P-39Q Airacobra will be added to "Great Battles."
All expansions will be available on the official Il-2 website and on Steam. Exact early access and release dates will be announced later.
