On those who hide in the night. Vampires of Skyrim.
All devoted fans of the series The [Elder Scrolls](/games?search=Elder Scrolls) remember the vampires of Morrowind and Cyrodiil. In this post, I want to talk about how the Children of Night live in Skyrim.
Gaining the Gift
Becoming a vampire in Skyrim is roughly the same as in previous installments of The Elder Scrolls:
Go to a cave with vampires.
Hit a vampire on the head and wait for them to cast the "Drain Life" spell on you. With a 10% chance, you will contract the disease Sanguinare Vampiris. If the vampire doesn't hurry to cast the spell and just menacingly swings a club at you - feel free to kill them.
After you have contracted the disease, wait 3 days, and it will turn into vampirism (sleeping is not necessary).
If by the end of the third day you see an image like this, congratulations: you are now a vampire.
You can find a cave with vampires, for example, in Morthal during the "Eternal Rest" quest (the quest will appear after visiting the burned house).
Note: if you are a werewolf, you cannot become a vampire until you are cured (beast blood provides 100% immunity to diseases).
Life in Society
To lead a normal social life, vampires need to feed. To maintain a human appearance, you need to drink the blood of living humanoid creatures (orcs, elves, humans, etc.) at least once every three days. This can be challenging only if your stealth skill is not developed at all. It works like this: sneak into a house, approach a sleeping person, hit the action button, and select "Feed".
Nightly feast - the blood is doubly delicious if you've been hungry for many days.
A well-fed vampire noticeably loses power (vampirism reverts to the first stage after eating), but can trade and interact with NPCs as if nothing happened. However, if the disease progresses to the fourth stage, peaceful inhabitants will flee from you in panic, and guards will attack you just for being seen.
Pros and Cons of Being a Vampire
Note: partially compensating for the lack of health and stamina regeneration will be the Lady Stone.
To not waste time, one can explore dungeons during the day, as the hated sun rays won't disturb your delicate vampire skin.
Curing Vampirism
If at some point you tire of life in the dark, you can always return to the light. To do this, you need to:
Method One:
- Go to any tavern in Skyrim and ask about rumors until you get a response like this:
- Head to Morthal and meet with the wizard Falion.
It's obvious we've come to the right place.
Bring him a Black Soul Gem (which you can also buy from him) with a "Grand" level soul inside (the soul trap spell can also be bought from him, if not yet learned). Buy/find/steal the gem and go fill it with a soul. Any humanoid creature will work (bandits, mages, and other expendables, peaceful NPCs will also do).
Take the soul gem back to Falion. He will tell you to meet him at dawn.
Wait for dawn (4-6 AM). It's best to deal with any aggressive creatures nearby, as the wizard may get scared and run away, forgetting everything in the world. If he runs away, don't worry; you can meet him the next dawn.
After you meet with Falion, he will conduct a ritual that will cleanse your soul and return you
to the path of light and goodnessto life.
The final part of the ritual.
Method Two:
Join the Companions and, while completing quests for them, become a werewolf. Lycanthropy will cure all existing diseases - including vampirism.
Method Three (works only while Sanguinare Vampiris has not yet turned into vampirism):
Cure yourself at the altar of any deity, or with a potion of disease healing. While this disease has not yet evolved into vampirism, it can be cured by the same means as regular diseases.
Note: you can contract vampirism more than once. Immunity to the disease is not gained. All subsequent cases of infection are cured by the same methods.
Surroundings suspiciously eye vampires even at early stages of infection.
Conclusion
Some people may enjoy living the life of a night hunter in Skyrim, while others may not. But trying out being a vampire at least once in the game is worth it. If only to feel the entire charm of the night and see all its facets.
P.S. There was a glitch with curing lycanthropy, so I had to become a vampire on old saves =_=
