General information about the game and links to interesting blog posts.
Unexpectedly, Valve opened the page for the new game Alien Swarm in the Steam store. It turned out that this game was developed over two years by a talented group of developers who were assembled from regular mod makers. Initially, a mod was created for Unreal Tournament 2004 (more details here), but then Valve offered the team to remake it using the Source engine. This is a classic top-down shooter akin to kill-everyone-and-everything with full Steamworks and SDK support. So, it includes a complete set of features: achievements, a map editor, and other goodies. Furthermore, the game is designed for 4 players to play cooperatively. All this beauty is already out. Are you drooling? And now the main news:
THIS GAME IS FREE!!!
That is, you get Left 4 Dead with alien cockroaches instead of zombies without paying a dime. It's worth noting that the game uses all the new advanced effects that will be present in Portal 2.
