Jagged Alliance 2 is a tactical role-playing game for PC, the third game in the Jagged Alliance series. The project also has two expansions: Unfinished Business (2000) and Wildfire (2004). The game's plot unfolds in a fictional country called Arulco, which is ruled by a ruthless monarch, Deidranna. The player, controlling several mercenaries, must defeat Deidranna with the help of local residents and become the ruler of Arulco.
In Arulco, there is a monarchy, but elections confirming the monarch's right to rule occur every ten years. In 1988, candidate Enrico Chivaldori married Deidranna Wrightman from sunny Romania to solidify his popularity in the country. But Deidranna turned out to be not so simple: she framed Enrico and accused him of murdering his father. Enrico escaped, staging his own death. Having removed all obstacles, Deidranna consolidated power and turned Arulco into an authoritarian state.
The game begins when Enrico hires our hero to defeat Deidranna by any means necessary. He connects the mercenaries with the rebels of the northern city of Omerta. Omerta has been raided, and the city lies in ruins. The leader of the rebels and Enrico's former opponent in the elections, Miguel Cordona, leads the player-hero to the city of Drassen.
The game also features a fantastic element, an enemy that does not exist in the realistic mode of the game — the "Screepit," a giant insect that lives underground and occasionally surfaces.
Battles and exploration of specific locations occur on a tactical screen, where the player can issue individual orders to their mercenaries. The game has a wide array of weapons, ammunition, and other items that you can use. All combat gear in the game is fictional but has real-world counterparts. As the game progresses, the player can hire new soldiers and acquire more powerful weapons and armor. All items belonging to the mercenaries can be traded or discarded. Mercenaries with first aid kits and medical skills can assist other mercenaries, speeding up their health recovery. They can also train local residents and turn them into militia squads to protect their territory.
