Neverwinter Nights 2 is a famous third-person RPG developed by Obsidian and published by Atari. The game was released in the USA on October 31, 2006, and on November 24 in Russia. The gameplay is based on the mechanics of Dungeons & Dragons 3.5.
The plot revolves around the player's struggle against the so-called King of Shadows, a powerful ancient being. The action begins in a small swamp village called West Harbor, which is attacked by creatures from the outer world—githyanki and duergar. It is unclear why this is happening, and figuring out the situation becomes a priority for the player. As the adventure unfolds, all cards are revealed. The creatures from the outer worlds did not attack the defenseless village for no reason—they were hunting for parts of the so-called Silver Sword, the only weapon that can destroy the King of Shadows, the guardian of Illefarn. After the githyanki suffered a devastating defeat, the threat of the King of Shadows destroying Neverwinter and the entire world became a harsh reality. How the player conducts themselves during the adventure affects the ending of Neverwinter Nights 2 (there are two in total). The game is divided into three distinct acts.
As in any self-respecting RPG, players should create a character based on their preferences. They can choose a race and class. Initially, there are about 12 different classes available, but more and more are unlocked as the player progresses through Neverwinter Nights 2, including prestige classes. Players can mix and match these classes in various ways, but up to a maximum of four positions. The team can consist of various characters whose abilities the player finds useful. To earn the loyalty of a particular hero, character, or creature, the player may need to put in some effort, but it is worth it. Additionally, the player becomes the owner of a so-called Castle at the Crossroads, a kind of base that they must fortify and improve in every possible way.
The grim atmosphere of the game has charmed not only a multitude of players but also various authoritative gaming publications, which have rated Neverwinter Nights 2 highly. Three full-fledged expansions have been released for the game that further develop the storyline: Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate, and Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir. The game was awarded for Best Story according to Gamespot in 2006.

Description: Bards sing praises in honor of the glorious warriors of bygone times, but the lands of the Forgotten Realms have never needed a hero as much as in these troubled days. Years have passed since the battles between the strongholds of Luskan and Neverwinter ceased—a time almost sufficient to heal the wounds left by the war. But the peaceful days were too short. Tensions between the city-states were rising, and it became increasingly obvious that the specter of bloody war loomed once again over the Sword Coast. Unnoticed by anyone, a dark shadow enveloped the Forgotten Realms. None of the common folk suspected that deep beneath the stagnant waters of the Marshes of the Dead, a dark army was gathering. Warriors flocked to the banner of a legendary evil adept from all corners of the Kingdom. It seemed that the Northern lands were doomed to vanish forever into the gathering darkness...
But even on the darkest day, there is hope. A lone wanderer appeared at the gates of Neverwinter, bringing with him a mysterious relic destined to change the fate of the entire North. Unraveling the secrets of this relic meant turning the tide of history in the Forgotten Realms. Thus began an epic saga of broken alliances, noble deeds, and dark intrigues, about which the inhabitants of the Kingdoms would weave legends for many years to come, passing them down from generation to generation...
The long-awaited continuation of the game, living by the laws of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons edition 3.5. Maintaining the traditions of its great predecessor, Neverwinter Nights 2 offers players an even deeper storyline, an intriguing character development system, stunning graphics, and a brilliantly implemented multiplayer mode. As they wander through the amazing world, the hero gains experience and develops not only personal qualities (strength, agility, magical abilities, etc.) but also gradually acquires political weight—eventually rising higher in the social ladder of Neverwinter. Life bustles in the fantasy cities—children play in the streets, farmers tend their livestock, and countless passersby hurry about their mysterious business. And upon returning to a familiar settlement, the hero will discover noticeable changes that have occurred since their last visit. In addition to the original storyline, the game features a user-friendly editor—a toolkit for creating custom campaigns and new adventures.
