The well-known studio Capcom, which has "churned out" numerous interesting and engaging games, released another decent zombie shooter in 2007 called Resident Evil 4 (Biohazard 4). Leon Kennedy once again stands up to protect humanity, only this time not from zombies, but from people infected with the horrifying parasite Las Plagas. Somehow they managed to kidnap the daughter of the U.S. President and take her to their island. Leon's task is to bring Ashley home alive and unharmed, at any cost.
The entire plot can be described in three stages. The first and easiest one is the village. The entire area that surrounds you is a village, and the people living in it are ordinary infected villagers. All they are armed with are pitchforks, axes, and knives. Several times you will face particularly strong and powerful infected individuals, who are several times stronger than ordinary enemies. Throughout the story, to "add fuel to the fire," Capcom throws in "bosses" - particularly strong mutants.
The second stage of the plot is the castle. You enter a castle inhabited by insane fanatics who are also subjects of Salazar (the "king" of this castle). They are more powerful and advanced, especially in terms of weaponry. Besides the ordinary cultists, just like in the other two stages, you will encounter more powerful infected representatives of the local "bestiary."
The third stage is a military base. As you might have guessed, it is populated by infected soldiers. This is the most difficult and interesting stage of the plot. There, Leon meets an old acquaintance, with whom he served - Krauser. This "mountain of muscles" has also turned to the dark side and secretly serves the leader of Las Plagas. But, in addition to all this, don’t forget that your main goal is to save Ashley.
Throughout the game, you will find typewriters, just like in previous parts, which allow you to save. You will also encounter merchants from whom you can buy or sell weapons and some other items. This can be done for money. Money drops from slain Las Plagas hosts, crows, and in large quantities from bosses. You can earn money from treasures, which are plentiful throughout the game, of course, if you search well. Additionally, you can buy a map with marks of hidden treasures from the merchant. After collecting several compatible items, you can combine them, just like herbs and much more, then sell them to the merchant at double the price.
Another interesting feature of the game is the cutscenes. Capcom has done an excellent job with them. The cutscenes are captivating and interesting. The gameplay is built on the principle of "kill everything, and you will proceed." You are given a location to navigate, and you clear it while shooting everything living and non-living. Sometimes they throw in interesting puzzles and mini-games requiring quick keystrokes, and if you don’t manage to do it in time, Leon dies.
Finally, a few words about the controls. Many curse and tear their shirts in indignation. The keys are not labeled as they should be, causing you to die a couple of extra times in mini-games. Besides, you don't need a mouse.
The game isn't very advanced in terms of graphics. The sound is both good and bad. Sometimes it scares, sometimes it pleases, but at times it makes you feel ashamed for Capcom. Overall, the game turned out to be quite mediocre. Some liked it, while others did not. However, it's worth playing at least for the cutscenes.
