The Settlers Online is a new "old" browser game in the strategy genre from Ubisoft Blue Byte. The first part of the famous series was released back in 1993, and since then, many games under the brand The Settlers have appeared (9 full projects). Now the game is available in your browser, so you can follow the lives of the cheerful little people and build-build-build anywhere there is access to a computer and the internet. In Russia and the CIS, the game was localized by "Fabbrica Online."
Overall, the game is almost indistinguishable from the previous non-browser games in the series. The player is given a space for a settlement, and they gradually need to develop their village, construct new buildings and mines, gather resources, lay roads, and engage in other pressing matters. There are about 50 types of buildings in the game, some of which are closely linked. For instance, if you build a lumberjack's hut but do not build a forester's hut, the surrounding forests will soon vanish. And there are many such examples. Building construction requires careful planning because if resources are misused, they may disappear in an instant, and restoring supplies of stone, wood, or coal can be quite challenging. As the player's level increases, new types of buildings will become available, and already built structures can be upgraded. It is also important to ensure that the player has all the available resources. If an upgrade begins and resources are lacking, the building will remain idle.
Resources are divided into three categories. The main category is raw materials, which include wood, ore, meat, water, wheat, etc. Auxiliary resources are processed raw materials (bronze, iron, sausage, flour), and finally, the end products – Damascus swords, crossbows, refined granite, saltpeter, carts).
You need to protect your settlement even at the early stages of development since relatively weak but annoying bandit bases surround it. To prevent bandit attacks, you need to hire warriors for defense. Several types of units are available from the beginning: recruits and archers. Recruits are meant to perish on the front line while the archers behind them fend off the enemy. Both are relatively weak warriors, but with proper defense, any enemy attack is doomed to fail.
You can attack not only bandits but also various bosses (Skunk, One-Eyed Bert, Wild Mary, etc.) as well as other players. However, you must first ensure that you have enough strength for the assault, so your victorious campaign does not turn into a shameful retreat.
The game includes many different nuances that will greatly interest both fans of the series and newcomers who are encountering "The Settlers" for the first time.
