PS3 trophies are likely to bypass MGS4
As you may already know, last week marked the anniversary of the release of MGS4, and in honor of this significant event, Kojima Productions promised to delight us with new announcements from the MGS universe throughout the week. Many players hoped that MGS4 would finally receive the long-awaited trophies.
So, what were the announcements?
Monday: Announcements every day.
Tuesday: Metal Gear Solid 4 has joined the ‘Greatest Hits’ lineup.
Wednesday: A new map for MGO was added, the beloved Shadow Moses, as well as the Old Snake model.
Thursday: Metal Gear Solid (1) was set to appear on the Playstation Network. Did we really not know about this before? Apparently not, according to the developers.
Friday: Everyone was waiting for the final announcement, which turned out to be just “The Metal Gear Online 2009 Tournament.”
The hype around MGS has died down. Everything has returned to normal. If Konami was planning to announce something significant for MGS4, there couldn’t have been a better moment. Thus, neither during E3 2009 nor during the Metal Gear Solid week were trophies for MGS4 announced or confirmed. If you still hold out hope for getting trophies, it may be in vain. Currently, the development team is working on two games in the Metal Gear series, and it seems that releasing a patch with trophies for the last game in the series is not part of their plans.
Many MGS fans have been requesting trophies since the game launched. It’s hard to determine who can really be called fans of the series, as many people, even fans, do not fully understand the storyline. The information from the MGS4 database in the PlayStation Store is enough to confuse anyone. Perhaps in Kojima’s view, understanding the story of MGS is far more important than the number of headshots made? Maybe. The MGS series is more focused on the narrative rather than gameplay. Long cutscenes in these games are loved by many, while others criticize them. Most people have come to terms with the absence of trophies in the earlier titles of the series, but the situation with PS3 is somewhat different; trophies are an incentive for many players to replay the same game multiple times to extract maximum enjoyment.
So, if you purchased the game and have been waiting for the trophies to play MGS4, you can now confidently insert the game disc into your PS3 and start watching the cutscenes from the game.
