SUZI (EDI) "I love making people kneel!"
EDI (Enhanced Defense Intelligence) or SUZI (System for Enhanced Defense Intelligence) is an AI installed on the "Normandy SR-2" by the organization "Cerberus".

The purpose of SUZI is to provide electronic protection for the ship, as well as supply Captain Shepard with useful information. It gains full control over the ship only after the Collectors attack, when Joker manually connects it to all ship systems.
SUZI is also responsible for informing the Ghost about everything happening on the "Normandy". It sends daily reports based on its observations of the ship's crew through numerous cameras and bugs hidden throughout the "Normandy".
The Ghost has restricted Shepard's access to certain files known to SUZI. It makes sense that he doesn't want the captain to learn things about "Cerberus" that he shouldn't know. However, once Joker grants SUZI full access to the ship, that information will become available.
SUZI will also gain access to the Reaper algorithms and will spend considerable time processing and analyzing them. It is later revealed that SUZI itself was enhanced with technology obtained from the Reapers.
When Shepard's and "Cerberus's" paths diverge, SUZI remains on the ship and ceases to send reports to the Ghost. In addition, it blocks attempts by "Cerberus" technicians to track the "Normandy".

When the ship is handed over to the Alliance, at Joker's request, SUZI pretends to be a regular AI to hide its true nature; otherwise, it might be deleted.
After the mission in the Mars Archives, a "Cerberus" android — Dr. Eva Cor — ends up on the ship. SUZI needs to extract data from her about the Prothean device that she downloaded from the archives.
After a while, the ship’s systems fail — SUZI decided to "try on" Dr. Eva's body and managed to take control of it. Now it is a full-fledged partner, which can be taken on missions.
It has engineering class abilities such as Incinerate and Overload, and is equipped with heavy pistols and assault rifles. It also possesses a unique feature — "Decoy".
SUZI's Abilities:
Incinerate: sets the enemy on fire and scorches their armor.
Overload: overloads electronics with a powerful pulse and paralyzes the enemy.
Barrier Matrix: strengthens armor with protective vortex currents. Slows down ability usage.
Decoy: distracts opponents with a false target.
Unlimited AI: increases ability damage, shield/barrier levels, and health.
In the "Purgatory" bar, Shepard can inquire about the technical specifications of SUZI's new body. SUZI will explain that hair and face are made from a flexible alloy mimicking some organic functions like healing and softness. An additional function is hardening in order to protect the synthetic brain from damage.
SUZI also mentions that the hair can change shape. By default, she has set them to "defense mode", a sturdy shell covering her head akin to a helmet. But, if desired, she can separate strands and create real hairstyles. However, this would be technically incorrect: if the synthetic strands get wet, they can't maintain the shape set by the controlling program. SUZI herself states: "I can't do a thing with it".
If SUZI is taken on the "Geth Dreadnought" mission, she will be shocked by what happened to Legion.
Note: After Legion is freed and taken aboard the "Normandy", he will criticize SUZI’s new body, saying it's inefficient.
If you managed to broker peace between the Geth and the Quarians, SUZI will be saddened by Legion's death for the sake of her people. If, however, you preferred to destroy the Geth during the "Priority: Earth" mission, SUZI will reflect on Shepard's decision. In the next conversation, she will ask Shepard about the meaning of synthetic life, and claim her belief that Shepard would easily sacrifice her instead of Joker if such a choice had to be made. She does not blame the captain for this but merely states that people will choose their own kind. She will also note that they are not alone in this, almost hinting at the Geth and their desire to serve the Reapers.
At the end of the game, we witness a confrontation between SUZI and Javik. The Prothean will assert that synthetics cannot be trusted, and therefore all of them must be destroyed. SUZI denies this, saying that the Protheans were brutal imperialists, enslaving weaker species and ruling the Galaxy with an iron fist.
During the attack on the "Cerberus" base, it is revealed that SUZI was created from the insane AI "Goliath" from the Moon, with which we encountered in [Mass Effect](/games?search=Mass Effect), using Reaper technology.
Personality
SUZI has its own consciousness, and as such can communicate with the crew members of the "Normandy" as equals.
Once SUZI gains full access to the ship, it tells Shepard that it feels as if it had been living in gloves this whole time, and then finally took them off. It states that the ship is its body, the drive is its heart, and the sensors are its eyes.
Despite being merely a machine, SUZI can feel. It is programmed to display instincts and emotions similar to organic races. It is curious, loves to joke, and has a sense of self-preservation. It enjoys interacting with the crew and seems happy when doing what it enjoys.
Throughout the war with the Reapers, SUZI tries to reconcile the behavior it has seen from organics with its own understanding of life, especially considering the actions of another synthetic race, the Reapers. Talking with Shepard, SUZI will understand that life is not merely striving for self-preservation, resulting in it changing its program to "serve society and help others". After the Horizon mission in [Mass Effect 3](/games?search=Mass Effect 3), SUZI will tell Shepard that the Reapers' idea of destroying organic life in the galaxy disgusts it, and it is determined to stop them.
It is also ready to sacrifice its life for Joker because he risked his life to save her when the Reaper virus shut down her systems in [Mass Effect 2](/games?search=Mass Effect 2). It claims that he saved her from slavery.
SUZI has a sense of humor. It often makes remarks with a humorous undertone, adding "That was a joke". But it speaks too deadpan, so its jokes often lead to confusion rather than laughter.
SUZI is very fond of two individuals: Shepard and Joker. In London, if you talk to her before the battle, SUZI will say that for the first time she feels alive, thanks to Shepard's trust and belief in her, and will do everything possible to stop the Reapers.
Joker and SUZI
Who did SUZI communicate with the most? Of course, with Joker. Jeff Moreau is the pilot; he is directly responsible for the vessel, and thus for her. Initially, SUZI and Joker’s relationship does not go well. He is apprehensive of her, believing he doesn’t need AI assistance to pilot the ship. SUZI, in return, does not miss an opportunity to jab at Joker.
Over time, they grow closer, especially after the Collectors' attack. The evolution of SUZI and Joker’s relationship is easy to track by how they refer to one another. If at first Joker referred to SUZI as an inanimate object calling it "it", later he starts addressing SUZI as "she" and even nicknames her "mommy". SUZI initially called Joker "Mr. Moreau", but later starts to call him by his name.
After the final mission, SUZI will say that she and Joker have a sort of platonic relationship. But the real development of the relationship between the brave pilot and SUZI can only be seen in [Mass Effect 3](/games?search=Mass Effect 3).
SUZI has received a body. Now she can leave the ship, stroll around the Citadel, accompany Joker to the bar... go on dates. Joker is very happy about this; he has been in love with SUZI for a long time. She knows this and feels sympathy for Jeff herself.
Who should she consult about love? Naturally, Shepard! Who else? SUZI expressed the assumption that Shepard has experience in romance, so she can rely on advice on how to behave with Joker. Shepard can help SUZI become Joker’s girlfriend, or he may respond that it’s a bad idea, and SUZI shouldn’t even try to act human.
If Shepard decides to play Cupid, both Joker and SUZI will periodically turn to the captain for advice. With Shepard's assistance, SUZI and Joker will start dating.
It is amusing to see how clumsily Joker tries to woo SUZI. He even went to the dance floor with her despite his Vrolik syndrome.
Nuts and Bolts:
If SUZI and Joker are in a romance, and you did not choose to destroy the Reapers at the end of the game, they will be seen embracing at the wreckage of the "Normandy" at the end of the game.
According to "The Art of [Mass Effect 3](/games?search=Mass Effect 3)", SUZI’s body is a "[Mass Effect](/games?search=Mass Effect) version" of Maria from the 1927 film "Metropolis".
When Shepard severed ties with "Cerberus", SUZI disabled remote tracking of the "Normandy". When "Cerberus" attempted to re-enable it, SUZI overloaded the attacking servers with data consisting of seven zettabytes of pornography owned by Joker. If asked about it, she will say that "That was a joke".
