The plot of Dragon Age III: Inquisition once again transports players to the lands of Thedas, which still has not recovered from the consequences described in the first two parts of Dragon Age. Moreover, the situation has only worsened. The Templars have completely separated from the Chantry, choosing to follow their own path. The Circles of Mages have disappeared, and the mages themselves have turned into rebels. The kingdom of Ferelden is still reeling from the aftermath of the Blight, while civil war rages in Orlais… To say that the entire Thedas is engulfed in turmoil with no end in sight is an understatement. The common folk accept this fact with resignation, explaining the events as fate’s will, while only the chosen few understand that the horrors unfolding in the world could not have arisen by themselves. Who destroyed the leadership of the Chantry during the discussion of a peace plan to resolve the conflict? What portal has opened in Thedas, and why are monsters and dragons emerging from it? No one can provide answers to these questions. However, the feeling that someone is manipulating the situation from the outside, deliberately pushing the world into chaos and disarray, haunts those in the know, and this frightens them much more than the very real possibility of a cataclysm that could wipe Thedas and all of its inhabitants off the map.
The main protagonist of Dragon Age III: Inquisition is none other than the Inquisitor – the leader of the Inquisition, an entity that already existed before and has now been re-formed specifically to investigate the happenings in Thedas. The Inquisitors hope to bring chaos to an end, but first, they need to understand what the hell is going on in the world and what has caused it. As the Inquisitor, the player will face crucial decisions (both popular and unpopular), many of which could affect the fate of the world. The hero must choose whom the Inquisition will ally with: the persecuted mages or the religious fanatics among the Chantry's representatives. Naturally, they will also have to deal with less grand matters: unraveling intrigues, engaging in “backroom wars,” setting up spy networks, conducting diplomatic negotiations, and, of course, traveling the world. It should be noted that every step, every choice made by the hero, every action – all of this is carefully recorded by the game and influences one of several endings in Dragon Age III: Inquisition. Will the world be saved? Will Thedas turn into a scorched and lifeless field where even demons cannot exist? Everything depends solely on the player's actions.
While developing Dragon Age III: Inquisition, BioWare representatives took into account the mistakes made in the controversial Dragon Age II. The tactical aspects that were present in Dragon Age: Origins have fully returned, having been nearly eliminated in the second installment. The world has once again become open – now it is even larger than it was in DA:O. Quests have become more interesting, and their number has increased dramatically. Companion management has improved significantly. The combat mechanics have been revamped, with finishing moves introduced. The list of changes and improvements could go on indefinitely.
