Ragnarök Online is a multiplayer online role-playing game created based on the manhwa (Korean comics) by Korean author Lee Myung-jin. The game uses a mixed 2D/3D graphics style: landscapes are drawn in 3D, while characters, monsters, and non-playable characters are depicted in 2D as sprites. One of the key features of Ragnarök Online is its continuous development: new locations, hero classes, abilities, professions, weapon types, and monsters are regularly introduced.
In Ragnarök Online, each character has two development branches: basic experience, which is responsible for the hero's general skills, and professional experience, which governs unique abilities (or spells). The game also features a profession system (three per class). Upon obtaining a new profession, a character's attributes are enhanced, granting access to new skills.
Players who reach high levels can unite into guilds and participate in the "War for Imperium." Hidden within one of the castles is the magical Imperium stone. If one of the guilds successfully besieges the castle, its members gain the chance to access a dungeon filled with powerful monsters and rare artifacts.
One interesting feature of the game is the ability for male and female heroes to marry. Characters that enter into marriage gain the ability to teleport to their other half and restore their health. "Married" heroes can also adopt a character. After adoption, the "parents" can share acquired experience with their "child."
