"The Ladder": a detective story where every choice changes the narrative
Friends of "Berloga" from the Russian indie game development team "Good Games" have completed the first version of their new game "Lestvitsa" in the genre of Orthodox mystical realism. The official release is scheduled for the end of 2026, and for now, the team invites those interested to participate in the closed testing.
The role-playing game unfolds in the atmosphere of a provincial town in the Russian North in the early 2000s. Traditional mechanics: investigations, quests, time travel have merged with something new: the inner struggle of the hero and his spiritual path. At the center of the plot is a 17-year-old boy whose father has been accused of stealing a precious relic. While investigating the crime, he finds himself transported from modern times to the era of feudal disunity, where he uncovers the roots of contemporary events. Every decision the player makes shapes the character's personality, opens new plot branches, and influences the ending.
*"The project 'Lestvitsa' is a deep story about growing up, faith, memory, and finding one’s own path among urban legends, human fates, and hidden wonders of everyday life. The project aims to promote spiritual and moral values, to instill in young players a sense of unity, friendship, and responsibility for their country and city. The aesthetics of the early 2000s, cozy courtyards, old panel houses, and the unique atmosphere of the era evoke a vivid sense of nostalgia for childhood and youth," — noted project leader *Vladimir Molodykh.
"It is important for us to see projects like 'Lestvitsa' emerge. They show that Russian game development is capable of working not only with commercial genres but also with deep cultural meanings. At the same time, we understand that grant support is an important stage, but the further development of the project depends on the quality of the game and the interest of players. This is another signal that the industry is developing in the right direction," — commented the CEO of APRIORI Alexander Mikheev.
