Finnish developers have repeatedly proven that they can, and most importantly - love to make games. The guys from Almost Human demonstrated this on their own example, creating a game called Legend of Grimrock. This RPG feels as if it was made by the templates of the times when we could hardly imagine what technology 3D was. No, the graphics in Legend of Grimrock are quite modern and pleasing, but the internal components of the project are a nod to the 90s.
Old-school gamers playing Legend of Grimrock are filled with tears of joy, nostalgically recalling their youth and computers with a few megabytes of RAM - back then the grass was greener, the air was cleaner, and the games were more captivating and entertaining. There is no arguing, since developers nowadays often pay more attention to graphics rather than quality gameplay. Hardcore projects are released in very few numbers, but Legend of Grimrock is indeed a hardcore project with all the consequences.
According to the plot of the game, a quartet of heroes, convicted of various crimes, is exiled to an eternal settlement in the dungeons, teeming with various monsters and creatures. In an environment of almost complete darkness, they have to survive. Food is scarce; they must search for it, otherwise, they could die of hunger. At every turn, they may be ambushed by yet another spawn of Darkness, eager to feast on sweet flesh. Traps are scattered here and there, which can eliminate the entire team in the blink of an eye.
The past inhabitants of the dungeons (whether they escaped or not - is unknown) wrote various hints on all the walls that can help the heroes escape from the stale labyrinths. Nevertheless, many inscriptions can lead them astray, and then the outcome is one - death and oblivion. The only chance for salvation is to find an exit from the dungeons. This is what you have to do in Legend of Grimrock. To enhance the experience, you can turn on the "old school" mode. By activating this option in the game menu, gamers lose the map. Thus, moving through the tunnels has to be done almost blindly. If you have had bouts of claustrophobia, it's better not to get acquainted with Legend of Grimrock. At least, don't turn off the travel map.
Control in Legend of Grimrock is undertaken from the perspective of one character with a first-person view. The most interesting part is that there are no companions around - you control them, using the abilities of the heroes (icons in the lower right corner of the screen) according to necessity. If the characters have significantly lost health and mana points, you can temporarily fall asleep and fully restore all parameters. In general, if you are not afraid of getting a powerful dose of "old school" - be sure to play Legend of Grimrock.
