Whatever they say, the zombie affair lived, lives, and will live. Dead Island is a vivid example of the combination of two incompatible elements: a beautiful, sunny island, a true paradise on Earth, and hordes of ugly corpses thirsting to devour all living things in their path. Where the hordes of the undead came from and how to get off the island are the two main questions that plague the heroes of the saga. They have not been affected by the virus that kills all living things and resurrects the dead, but they need to find a way out of this hell that hides behind the facade of a paradise.
The island itself is an open world divided into separate locations. You can walk from one point to another at your own pace, use transportation, or teleport at special points. On the way, we are confronted by the malicious spawn of the unknown virus, and they must be destroyed ruthlessly and quickly. Fortunately, there are ways to kill and options to send the wandering zombie to eternal rest are not limited to just one blow. To enhance the effect, firearms are not that easy to find, so one has to rely on improvised means, fists, and feet. Weapons can be improved and upgraded, as long as you find the blueprints and materials in time.
Zombies roam everywhere, and sometimes they are not just ordinary corpses. Some can catch up with you in seconds or dodge a blow, while others can spit poison or slam you into the ground with one sweep. Thus, the journey turns into a game of death, where you must survive alone. The rest are already dead and seek revenge on all living things. However, as practice shows, rare scattered groups of people remain on the island, some help, while others can be worse than the undead. The conversation with them is always one – a bullet to the forehead and a meal for the hungry zombies. Besides the main storyline, there are also side quests that offer various bonuses and money for completion.
One of the developers' most successful achievements is the damage dealing system. You can literally rip pieces of meat from enemies by wielding a machete, for example. For particularly bloodthirsty players, this will undoubtedly be a plus. In addition, to enjoy the full visual effects, the Chrome Engine 5 will help. The graphics, comparable to Crysis, not only please the eye but also do not drain your computer's resources. The game runs smoothly even on mid-range systems. In general, if you are a fan of zombie shooters and apocalypses of this kind, Dead Island will surely suit your taste. In any case, despite some unfulfilled promises from the developers, this game is worth playing.
