Call of Duty: Ghosts is a cross-platform computer game developed by Infinity Ward and released by Activision in November 2013. The publisher in Russia and the CIS countries is the company "Novy Disk." The game was launched on all major platforms, including eighth-generation consoles.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is the tenth installment in the main Call of Duty series and serves as a sort of "reboot" for the series authored by Infinity Ward. Prior to the release of "Ghosts," three projects were released under the IP Modern Warfare, but then the established tradition was interrupted as the focus shifted to a new story. Call of Duty: Ghosts features a completely new plot, distinct from what was presented in Modern Warfare. It does not intersect with the events described in MW, and the familiar heroes have made way for new protagonists and antagonists.
The events of Call of Duty: Ghosts unfold in the near future, where the United States is embroiled in a war against the so-called "Federation" – a union of South American countries with its capital in Caracas, Venezuela. As a result of the relentless struggle between the two continents, and due to a technological catastrophe (the US territory was treacherously attacked by orbital missiles from a hacked military space complex called "Thor"), a significant portion of the States has turned into a lifeless desert, leaving only ruins behind. However, the military machine of the democratic state has been preserved and strives to counter the growing power of the "Federation." The most elite and secretive unit of the US Army is the "Ghosts" – trained soldiers who carry out highly dangerous missions and are always on the front lines. Players control one of the members of this unit – Logan Walker, who, by fate's design, finds himself in the "Ghosts" alongside his brother Hesh – in Call of Duty: Ghosts. The "Federation" must be defeated!
As in previous installments of the Call of Duty series, Ghosts offers a plethora of multiplayer modes, including entirely new ones like " Blitz," "Charged," and the "Squads" mode, where players engage in combat against one another while receiving support from bots. The beloved zombie mode has given way to "Extinction" – a chain of cooperative missions where a team of four fighters must delve as deep as possible into alien territory – featuring tailed and fanged monsters of various sizes, reminiscent of Zerg from StarCraft. As they embark on their perilous journey, soldiers must destroy certain organisms (masses of biomass that serve as incubators for producing new aliens) using a portable drill. Upon destroying each organism, waves of aliens rush in, intent on breaking the drill and devouring the soldiers. The soldiers, in turn, must prevent both the destruction of the device and their own consumption by the vile creatures.
