Dragon Nest is an MMORPG game developed by the South Korean studio Eyedentity Games and released in spring 2010. The project was tested for a long time in the Asian region, then in North America, and in 2011, it had a global release. The localized version of Dragon Nest was released in Russia in 2012 under the patronage of Mail.ru.
How an ordinary console game became a multiplayer project is a mystery, but the fact remains. Initially, the developers created a regular single-player slasher, but then there was a sharp 360-degree turn, and gamers received a full-fledged multiplayer game called Dragon Nest instead of standard "hack and slash". Naturally, the initial work was not discarded, resulting in a unique combat system. This is not even non-target, but something more that has never been seen before in multiplayer projects of this genre. A slasher that turned into an MMO is very interesting.
The action of the game takes place in a world created by the goddess Althea before she was plunged into eternal sleep by her own sister. To awaken Althea, the so-called Grail must be used, which is, as usual, hidden so carefully that finding it is nearly impossible. Althea herself may give a hint, but only after all the power stones have been found. These stones are guarded by terrible dragons, making the task even more complicated. However, the inhabitants of the beautiful world believe that at some point a hero will appear who will defeat the dragons, find the stones, and then find the sacred artifact.
Initially, there were four classes in Dragon Nest, but later their number increased to six. The list is as follows: warriors, archers, mages, clerics, academicians, and desert fighters of Kali. All classes are strictly tied to the character's gender, so when creating a character, one should consider that a girl cannot become a warrior or cleric, and a boy cannot become an archer or wizard. At levels 15 and 45, the player can choose another specialization. Otherwise, everything is more or less familiar – warriors slash monsters with their swords in melee combat, archers and mages attack from afar, clerics heal (although their attack abilities also deserve respect), the girls of Kali summon various creatures and fight in melee, while academicians create various technical devices (for example, robots).
The world of Dragon Nest is not seamless, as many might think – movement between territories is done through portals. There are peaceful locations (cities and small villages) as well as places filled with all sorts of mobs. In Dragon Nest, one can find dungeons-instances, nests (special dungeons that require special keys to access), arenas (both PvP and PvE), obstacle courses, and much more. Gamers will not get bored in any case.
The game cannot boast modern graphics, but it looks quite nice. Additionally, Dragon Nest does not require powerful hardware, so even a player with the weakest gaming system can appreciate the project.
