Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a multiplatform first-person shooter video game developed by Ubisoft. Ubisoft Entertainment serves as the global publisher once again. The publisher of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon in Russia is the company "Buka." The game was released on May 1, 2013 (although pesky "pirates" managed to leak Blood Dragon a month earlier).
So what is Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon? It is a standalone expansion to the third part of Far Cry, but Blood Dragon is in no way a continuation of the story of Jason Brody and his friends. The main character of Blood Dragon is a character named Rex "Power" Colt – an experienced commando, a fighter against evil and bad guys, and also... a cyborg. Yes, an ordinary cyborg model Mark IV. A red eye, a metal arm, implants, and unusual abilities are included. Where did such a miracle come from on the beautiful Rook Island? It should be noted right away that the events of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon take place on a completely different island than the one in the original game. The time period is different, and indeed – the alternative reality reigns, and it is the year 2007. The world is experiencing the aftermath of a nuclear war, after which, following the canons of the genre, chaos, disorder, and outright lawlessness prevail on the planet. Despite the fact that civilization is under threat of complete destruction, people continue to fight each other. Ordinary fighters are now valued little in battle, and the palm of victory is seized from their weak hands by cyborgs – intelligent half-human, half-machine beings. The main character of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is one of them – the aforementioned Rex Colt. An experienced specialist in the destruction of all kinds of scoundrels receives an important mission from his command – he must eliminate the mad Colonel Sloan, who has entrenched himself with his Omega Force army on a lost island in the ocean. He clearly has something sinister in mind, and Colt needs to quickly figure out what’s happening before it’s too late.
Although at first glance Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon appears serious, this game is, in essence, a real parody of the pompous pseudo-scientific action films of the 1980s. Lasers, robots, acid colors, futuristic bases, violence, blood, and mountains of corpses – all this is present in Blood Dragon. Not trash, but mockery – this can describe Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Is it funny? Yes. Is it fun, dynamic, unusual? Yes, yes, and yes again. Gamers did not expect any revelations from Blood Dragon, but the game unexpectedly "shot". The success is largely due to the developers' imagination, even though they didn’t invent anything new but simply used old sci-fi films and similar ancient toys as a basis (the eight-bit style cutscenes of Blood Dragon evoke real nostalgia). It turned out to be quite something, I must say. The gameplay has hardly changed, although some "survival" elements (collecting skins and plants) were removed, and character development has become more linear. However, in terms of visuals, the game has changed significantly. The island is shrouded in eternal twilight, illuminated by specific lighting, where cybernetic animals roam, as well as the infamous Blood Dragons – huge, somewhat blind lizards that primarily rely on their hearing. If dragons can be lured to an enemy base, they bring such a level of chaos to the enemy ranks that aggressive tigers and panthers from Far Cry 3 look like pathetic and hopeless kittens in comparison. No wonder, as these lizards can shoot lasers from their eyes. That’s the whole game.
