Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a computer game that narrates the adventures of comic book heroes from Marvel. The world is once again in danger, and this time the main villain is the notorious Doctor Doom. He attacks the S.H.I.E.L.D superheroes' base, and only they – the bearers of superpowers – can save it from total destruction. But it's not as simple as it first seemed. Doctor Doom has conceived not only to enslave this world but also to take control of others. Heroes will have to visit Atlantis, Asgard, and even Hell, trying to thwart the plans of the cunning villain.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance offers players nearly all of its well-known superheroes. Players can take on the role of Spider-Man, Wolverine, Daredevil, Black Panther, Punisher, Blade, and more. In total, there are about 140 characters in the game. A team can consist of a maximum of 4 heroes, one controlled by the player and the others by AI. Nevertheless, during the gameplay, players can easily switch between team members if they realize that utilizing the abilities of a particular hero could be more effective (as opposed to AI). Moreover, at certain points in the levels, there are special 'points' where players can disband the team and reassemble it. Thus, players are not forced to explore locations with the heroes they chose at the very beginning.
Each character has its own set of special moves and skills. To improve a specific characteristic, players need to accumulate experience points and then distribute them both manually and automatically. Additionally, each superhero has alternate costumes that enhance their base skills or add entirely new abilities to the hero's arsenal. Despite some RPG elements, the game is a typical action game with all that it entails. What happens on the monitor screen can sometimes be compared to the best overseas blockbusters. Jumps, explosions, smoke, falls, and total destruction abound.
In the fight against numerous opponents, unique abilities of the heroes come into play.
Many characters in Marvel Ultimate Alliance focus on close combat, but some can soar into the air. This is especially helpful when fighting armored opponents, and their levitating abilities will come in handy during boss battles.
It’s worth noting that playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance is much more fun in the company of friends. If at any point the superhero journey becomes tiresome, even for a fan of Marvel comics, the co-op mode will provide a significant boost to continue the game.
