The Return of the Mustachioed Legend or First Information About Modern Warfare 3
In the columns – the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer from Modern Warfare 2. In the background of the computer desktop – a brutal soldier from the same game. Despite the fact that a pre-order for Battlefield 3 is waiting its turn in EA Downloader, and the game from EA DICE is one of the most anticipated this year, the announcement of the new Modern Warfare gave me a good kick – it’s not often that I rush to write a preview for such a highly awaited game.
As expected, Infinity Ward is producing yet another blockbuster in their office. Even with its dramatically changed lineup, the Americans are able to stay the course and continue to release truly top-notch shooters. There is a niche for it; there aren’t many great rail shooters available (the recently released Homefront, which promised to kill CoD, fell flat). Yes, the theme of modern warfare is starting to get a bit tiresome, but still, as funny as it sounds, hordes of gamers are waiting for the new Modern Warfare, already condemning it to the title of Game of the Year before its release. Of course, the publisher Activision deserves some credit for this, having conducted a remarkable marketing campaign. Therefore, even if Black Ops was scorned and hated by many, the new Call of Duty will still be purchased on release day. But come on, just buy it.
Infinity Ward has always loved what could be called “cranberries,” so naturally, the third part won’t stray from this. As is known, the finale of Modern Warfare 2 will serve as the starting point for MW3, and I will dare to remind you of the events of those years. In general, the script that the developers managed to come up with for their game turned out to be one of the best in shooters, and this is by no means a subjective opinion. To skillfully play on the emotions of the player, compressing a massive war involving hundreds of soldiers down to a battle that is essentially one-on-one. There he is, your enemy, whom the main heroes have been hunting throughout the game, now literally just a couple of meters away. For a few minutes, the authors give us the opportunity to witness a heartbreaking scene of our comrade battling the foe, and in the end, they allow for a decisive move. Price, the mustached legend of the series, along with Captain MacTavish, fly away in a helicopter, and the characters' final words give a clear hint at a continuation. Then – the credits roll, crashing down on the player and leaving them alone with their impressions. The first thought: this was quite epic.
And this is exactly what I would like to see from Modern Warfare 3. It is known that, in addition to new heroes, old personalities will return to the control. So, we hope for Price and the crew, although it would be naive to think that Infinity Ward would forget about its main protagonist. The presentation of the plot can be expected to be familiar – playing as several heroes will imply completely different locations for military operations. Thus, we will take on an invasion in Manhattan, while later we might end up in Dubna – the largest research center for nuclear physics in Russia. There will even be beleaguered New York, where the destruction will be almost as extensive as in the similar city from Crysis 2. The information that we will suddenly be allowed to control some vehicles shouldn’t be taken as good news: remember CoD2 with its tanks or Black Ops with its helicopter. But yes, it will surely look spectacular, and yes, the gameplay of the vehicles will undoubtedly add variety.
According to the information leaked online, the campaign will be divided into fifteen interconnected missions, which, as I mentioned, will take place in different parts of our planet. The single-player mode will finally shed light on the fate of the wounded MacTavish, on the supervillain of all of MW2, as well as weave the fates of entirely new characters – it wouldn’t be profitable for Activision to abandon such a popular series (specifically MW). On the other hand, perhaps the creators will want to put a logical conclusion without dragging the game out like a rubber band.
There has been less news about the online mode. A whopping twenty multiplayer maps will be available, and the already familiar “Spec. Ops” will acquire Survival and Mission modes. But you understand that Activision has no reason to reveal all its cards before the upcoming E3 2011. At that show, we will receive more detailed information straight from the developers themselves.
