The Batman Universe: Overview of the Key Events in Batman's Life Leading Up to the Events of Batman: Arkham Asylum.
PROLOGUE:
The idea for this post was inspired by a game I recently completed, a game that, to be honest, surprised me. Writing again about a game that has been reviewed countless times in the many various reviews available on the blog? Absurd. We’ve already read the reviews, and all the reviewers unanimously recommended the game. Well, we believed them, finished the game, and more than that, we liked it. After watching the final credits, we instantly remembered all the best moments that this game gifted us, cracked our stiff necks, did a little stretch, and wiped it off the drive completely to make room for a new, unplayed, and unexplored game. Well, the age of action is short-lived; a rare gamer will return to a game for a second, let alone a third round, and perhaps it’s for the best. However, this post is intended for the rare gamer who is dissatisfied with the mere presence of bare gameplay. It's written for those for whom atmosphere and surroundings, understanding of what’s happening, are as vital as air or Belomor. After all, dear friends, Batman is not a street dog or a railroad bum, he’s not just a freak in leather tights; he’s a respectable old gentleman with a long story, bless any idea that spans 70 years. This is not Bioshock, born just days ago, not even Half-Life, which has just crossed the ten-year mark. Oh, for the love of God, do not spit at me; I am not comparing games – just the age of the mother idea. Batman is a whole universe, thoughtfully crafted by many authors over many years, and, frankly, recklessly tangled and cluttered by those same writers and artists. Each new comic author or film screenwriter added their own strokes to the overall picture, and to hide the truth, some made the picture prettier, while others marred it. With your permission, we will cut out all the excess, leaving only the established, familiar, classical. Furthermore, we will only adhere to events that occurred chronologically prior to those unfolding in the game, only lightly touching on subsequent events, focusing on the most crucial moments. So, imagine how much more positive emotion we can derive from the game by knowing at least a small portion of the history of the universe, characters, and the main protagonist.
Thus, the goal of this post: to enhance the impressions of the game, to add feelings (anticipations) about it for those who have not played it before, as well as for those who decide to replay it, so to speak, to prepare for this exciting endeavor. Below you will read about all the most important events of the Batman universe that happened to its main character, Batman.
I A Little Scared Boy.
Bruce Wayne, an eight-year-old boy, son of Thomas and Martha Wayne, a rich little boy, heir of millions of dollars and other material blessings. Initially, Bruce was a reclusive and detached boy; he had just a couple of friends who basically couldn’t stand him - Thomas Elliot and Roman Sionis. The future of these boys, as well as anyone close to Bruce, was not merciful. Thomas Elliot, son of wealthy parents, killed them in a twisted form and later became a great surgeon, and even later a great serial killer called Hush. Roman Sionis, who also killed his father and cut out a horrific-looking mask from the lid of his coffin, became the head of the criminal world known as Black Mask.
One day, while wandering the outskirts of the family estate, apparently counting crows and not paying attention to where he was stepping, Bruce fell into a deep pit, which, by the way, turned out to be a cave that would later become the steadfast refuge of the man-bat. The cave was cold and dark, but that was the least of his worries, as he was terrified to death by the bats that resided in it. Fortunately, during this time, his equally terrified father rushed over, and soon Bruce found himself at home under a warm blanket with a cup of hot cocoa.
However, the story did not end with falling into the pit; the formation of Batman as a personality, as banal as it may sound, is linked to a more horrible family tragedy – the death of his parents. His parents were killed indirectly due to Bruce's fault; he was frightened by the story depicted in
