Terraria is often confused with another game that has similar mechanics – Minecraft. However, these are completely different things, and it’s not worth comparing them to each other. So what is Terraria? It’s a 2D indie game where the player is expected to build a house, chop down a tree, and come up with ideas on how to live in this chaotic world. After creating a character, the player enters a randomly generated world, which is the main feature of Terraria. You literally start from scratch. The player is given a pickaxe and an axe, with which they must gather resources to build a house and craft items. After that, you can build a larger house and eventually a fortified and impregnable castle.
In general, this is what the gameplay is built upon – chopping, digging, poking, searching, and building. The player's shelter guarantees survival, as the world is inhabited by various creatures and monsters that constantly seek to devour the player. In a good and cozy castle, you can accommodate various NPCs, such as traders, who will supply all sorts of useful items – from weapons to magical devices. “Tasty” items can also be collected from slain monsters, but here arises the problem – surviving alone in this harsh world is very difficult. Therefore, for those who want to progress quickly and with style, multiplayer mode was created.
With the company of other players, it’s much easier and more fun to destroy various creatures of darkness. You can delve into underground caves, reach hellish depths, explore underground jungles, or a location called The Corruption, where everything is turned upside down. It’s worth noting that the game features an enormous number of items that can be found or created. The most powerful armor or the highest-level weapons can be crafted from rare ingredients, dropped by top monsters, or found in hard-to-reach places in the locations.
Thus, the process of tinkering with your character can take a very long time. As for the graphics, it’s hard to say anything special. For those who enjoy platform-style “sandbox” games, pixelated 2D feels like home. Others should not pay attention to the generally pretty graphics (what can you do, it’s the genre) and fully immerse themselves in the gameplay. The developer of the game, Re-Logic, made Terraria a very engaging project, simple yet immensely interesting. For people who do not particularly enjoy dealing with complicated gameplay, Terraria can become a real breath of fresh air. However, according to players, once you obtain the most powerful weapon or armor in the game, it can quickly become a bit dull. Therefore, the advice to all is to play thoughtfully and strategically.
