The Night of the Rabbit is yet another beautiful hand-drawn quest from Daedalic Entertainment. Like many other projects from the German developer studio, The Night of the Rabbit has a so-called “second bottom,” possesses a philosophical underpinning, and provokes thought. At the same time, it cannot be said that the game is only for adults (in the good sense of the word). It will also appeal to children, but it is by no means certain that youngsters will understand all the ideas embedded in The Night of the Rabbit. So, what is the game about? The story is as follows. There lived a twelve-year-old boy named Jerry Hazelnut, who lived his life without a care, quietly dreaming of one day becoming a real magician. In general, he was an ordinary child. Although, why ordinary? Not at all. He dreamed of becoming a magician so intensely that it did not go unnoticed.
One day, the fanciful Jerry receives a mysterious letter, after which the sender of the letter – the rabbit Marquis de Hoto – comes to visit him. The long-eared creature offers Jerry the chance to become a magician, and he naturally agrees with joy. As a result, the protagonist finds himself in a mysterious world (which includes magic, mysterious creatures, and talking mice), where he must undergo a rite of passage into wizardry. But it all turns out to be far from simple. The boy begins to suspect that the rabbit has some ulterior motives. And it turns out he does. Gradually, the bright fairy tale takes on darker, gloomier tones, and Jerry finds himself caught in a whirlpool of rather unpleasant events.
The Night of the Rabbit is, in many ways, a canonical quest. Players need to travel through locations, interact with characters, collect items, and solve various puzzles. There is a long-familiar highlighting of active points on the map. But there are interesting features. For example, The Night of the Rabbit has a day and night cycle. For the time of day to change, Jerry needs to either sleep or immerse himself in hours of reading an interesting book.
