Baldur’s Gate is the first game in the Baldur’s Gate series, which has become truly cult among millions of fans of serious and hardcore RPGs. The developer was BioWare, and the worldwide publisher was Interplay. The publisher in Russia is "Akella". The game was released in 1998, but for several years, the skilled "smiths" at BioWare continued to forge projects based on the series (the expansion for the first game, Tales of the Sword Coast, and later the sequel, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, with the expansion Throne of Bhaal). Unfortunately, this victorious procession of Baldur's Gate came to a halt for quite a long time, unless we consider complete projects like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.
However, the series was not completely forgotten. In the fall of 2012, the series was rebooted in a compilation called Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition (initiated by Beamdog), which included the expansion Tales of the Sword Coast. There were no drastic changes in the game, but the updated Baldur’s Gate could boast a revamped interface, slightly improved graphics on the Infinity Engine, as well as a sprinkle of new heroes and quests. Naturally, the compilation was fully compatible with PC and, in addition, with MAC and iOS platforms (specifically iPad). Shortly after, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition was also released, which included the original game and the expansion Throne of Bhaal.
The plot of the very first Baldur’s Gate unfolds in a gaming universe based on the rules of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. The world, once ruled by dark gods, changed overnight when the higher beings died, and an ordinary mortal without immortality ascended to the throne. Nevertheless, Baal, one of the deities, had descendants, among whom a conflict later erupted. The main character is the son of the God of Death, who, for a time, does not suspect whose blood flows in his veins. He has a brother named Sarevok, who understands who he is and tries by all means to eliminate the heirs. The whole game is essentially based on this fratricidal struggle. The main character, with the support of allies, must avoid death at the hands of the treacherous Sarevok and then confront him in a final duel. The throne of the ruler is a good thing, no matter how you look at it.
Playing Baldur’s Gate happens in real-time, but especially for fans of the famous tabletop game D & D, an interactive pause was introduced. At the moment when the game is interrupted, gamers can give instructions to the main character and his companions.
