Space Rangers 2: Dominators is a computer game developed by Elemental Games. The game was released in 2004 and contains various elements from different gaming genres: RPG, strategy, text quests, and several other genres. In 2007, an extended edition of the game was released, which included the first part of the game, an improved version of the second part, as well as additional materials.
The action of the game takes place 280 years after the first part, in the year 3300. The Coalition of Reasonable Races (CRR) is attacked by a new form of cyberlife called Dominators. They represent a mix of combat droids and Klisans. Before the events of the game, the Coalition attempted to destroy the main center of the Dominators with the help of a united fleet of all five races, but the operation failed, as it turned out that there are three such centers. Each center is subordinate to its own Dominators: Keller - Kelleroids, Blazer - Blazeroids, and Terron - Terronoids. All three centers are hostile to both the CRR and each other. The player takes on the role of a lone ranger, whose ultimate goal is to save the galaxy from the Dominators.
The game world is populated by five intelligent races: Malokians, Pelengs, Feyans, Gaalts, and Humans. Each race has its own features, for example, Feyans possess high intelligence and prefer to solve problems peacefully rather than through armed conflict, while Malokians are the exact opposite of Feyans, lacking intelligence and solving all issues with weapons. The world around the player constantly changes: pirates attack traders, military ships assault systems captured by Dominators, contracts are made between factions, and much more. The player is not limited in actions and can become anyone: a pirate, a warrior, a trader, or a mercenary.
The gameplay is divided into several parts: space flight simulation, ground battles, text quests. Space flights consist of a sequence of actions chosen by the player. The player can choose what to do: attack an opponent, fly to a designated point, land on a planet, execute a hyperspace jump to another system, and more. For flights, the player has a small ship that can be equipped with various equipment: fuel tank, engine, various weapons... In addition to standard equipment, there are also artifacts in the game that enhance the ship's characteristics, but often they require something in return, such as blocking one of the weapon slots.
In addition to regular flights, there is also an arcade mode that activates when the player flies into a black hole. In this mode, the player directly controls the ship using the keyboard and must destroy all enemy ships in order to escape the black hole.
Ground battles are a real-time strategy in which players build robots and lead them into battle against the Dominators. Robots can capture factory points that increase the maximum number of robots in the player's army, as well as bring resources for their construction. Bases and factories can be equipped with defensive turrets that will attack the nearest enemy. Robots are built at the starting base or at a base captured by defeating the opponent. Various parts can be attached to a robot, such as chassis, body, weapons, and head. Each part affects a specific attribute: speed, attack, defense. In addition to standard robot control, players can switch to a third-person view and personally control the robot.
Text quests are a special type of mission that can be obtained on one planet and completed on another. During a text quest, the player chooses various action options that must lead to a specific ending. Some quests have multiple paths and endings, each of which is correct.
