Serious Sam 3: BFE is a first-person shooter that narrates the new adventures of Samuel Stone in his battle against the alien forces of Mental. This game is a prequel to all previous game installments, allowing gamers to discover how it all began. According to the plot, all resources on Earth have run out, and at the moment of this unfortunate event, the so-called Key to Eternity was found in Egypt. A huge ancient artifact left by a past civilization was attempted to be hacked, but nothing worked.
After a little more time, aliens led by Mental invaded Earth. Destroying almost all living beings on the planet, the alien monsters settled freely around the world. Meanwhile, politicians and scientists remembered the Key, which, in their understanding, could open a portal to the past. A way must be found to get to the ancient artifact and figure out how to activate it. That’s what Crazy Sam will be up to.
Overall, the gameplay has not changed at all compared to previous installments. The player is still in for a wild annihilation of various enemies, from the smallest spiders to the enormous goat-like Khnum. Most of the monsters smoothly migrated from the earlier parts of Serious Sam, but many new ones have appeared as well. All of them need to be destroyed, and Stone will be aided by an abundance of available weapons. A pistol, shotgun, double-barrel, cannon shooting shells, laser weapons, sniper rifles, and much more. The most interesting innovation is the so-called Syrian bracelet, which allows you to literally tear enemies apart.
The action takes place in Egypt, with battles conducted in urban settings, then in vast desert areas, sometimes Sam will navigate through dungeons and pyramids, as well as explore entire temple complexes. Enemies await him everywhere, who still love to swarm.
The game utilizes the Serious Engine 3.5, so on high settings, the game looks simply stunning. Ancient temples crumble from explosions, throwing clouds of dust into the sky, and shards of stone scatter in all directions when hit by a bullet or projectile. The brutality in terms of the ability to kill aliens is sometimes simply astonishing. Even after a brief firefight, such a quantity of blood remains behind Sam that it seems like several dozen butchers have worked their magic. From a direct hit, enemies explode into many different pieces, legs in one direction, arms in another, and heads disappearing over the horizon.
Serious Sam 3: BFE remains the same game where you shouldn't think too much. You just need to relax and enjoy the bloody action happening on the screen.
