Interview with Anna Moleva aka Ormeli

Good day, Gamer. Spring is just around the corner, a time of freshness and renewal, and so is the final stage of the [Miss Gamer](/games?search=Miss Gamer) contest, a celebration of beauty and joy. The qualifiers are slowly coming to an end, and in a week we will learn the names of all the finalists. But there is still time to express your civic stance and support the girls.

To my surprise, I discovered that Anna Moleva, known to us for her cosplay of Elizabeth from [BioShock Infinite](/games?search=BioShock Infinite) and her participation in Igromir, is participating in the qualifying round from the game [Mass Effect 3](/games?search=Mass Effect 3). There were actually three posts about Anna on Gamer (1, 2, 3). But I decided to take a little chance and take my interview with the girl, especially for the [Miss Gamer](/games?search=Miss Gamer) blog.

Andariel:

Good day, Anya. Thank you for agreeing to answer a few questions. You are quite a well-known cosplayer - tell me, at what age did you start your first cosplay and what was the character?

Ormeli:

Good day. No problem, I always enjoy chatting :) I started cosplaying, I think, when I entered university and moved to the capital, which means at 17. It was Shihouin Yoruichi from Bleach.

Andariel:

And how many completed cosplays do you have at the moment? Perhaps it's not a very fair question - but among them, is there a favorite? The one from your most loved anime or game, the most successful or just one that has more memories attached to it?

Ormeli:

Completed, about 15. Not counting covers on K-Pop, which also, in essence, are cosplays. Favorite... it's hard to highlight one. I always embody characters that I really like. But at the moment, I think I can name my cosplay of Megara from Disney's Hercules. This was a real obsession that followed me for many years. :)

Andariel:

Yes, I’ve seen it - a very interesting character. It must have been difficult to create such a clever hairstyle as Meg's. And in the photo by the river - you just shine! But to be honest, my favorite cosplay of yours is Elizabeth from BioShock. And on the internet, as I've noticed, this work is very well-known and highlighted by many popular sites. There were even two posts on Gamer.ru featuring your Elizabeth!

Ormeli:

Oh, thank you. ^^ Yes, if talking about my most popular image, it’s definitely Elizabeth. But several factors contributed to that, not just luck. I mean, if you want to be known - you need to engage in smart PR moves and create either very complex costumes, from a technical execution standpoint, or from popular fandoms. [BioShock Infinite](/games?search=BioShock Infinite) is one of the most anticipated games, and that's why a successful cosplay based on it became so popular.

Andariel:

Elizabeth, Ellie from [Dead Space 2](/games?search=Dead Space 2), at Igromir 2010 I saw you in a costume of Sylph from [Disciples 3](/games?search=Disciples 3). Were there any other gaming characters?

Ormeli:

Of course. The first game cosplay was Elika from [Prince of Persia](/games?search=Prince of Persia), there was also an L2 kamel and one of my latest works was [Alice: Madness Returns](/games?search=Alice: Madness Returns). Now I am officially considered a game cosplayer.

Andariel:

Officially?

Ormeli:

On foreign platforms, that’s what they call me. :)

Andariel:

I see. As far as I know, you are more well-known abroad than here in Russia. I understand it’s because we lack proper support for cosplayers and there isn’t a well-established community - Russian cosplayers tend to orient themselves on Western resources. Unfortunately, due to this, many are convinced that there is no quality cosplay in Russia. But how nice it is, browsing cosplay.com and admiring yet another quality work, to be surprised to find out that it belongs to our compatriot. )

Ormeli:

Certainly. In fact, the senselessness and harshness of our peers have long become a relic of the past, and today many of our teams occupy top positions in global cosplay rankings with various works. Some have even turned cosplay (well, almost cosplay) into their main source of income, which is quite unprecedented for Russia. It's a bit sad, really, that compatriots compare our cosplay to foreign without understanding how much more difficult it is to work on it here.

Andariel:

Truly. But let’s not dwell on the gloomy. Let’s rather look to a bright future. Closing the cosplay topic, share, if it is not a secret - what characters do you have in mind for the near future?

Ormeli:

I'm afraid it is a secret; I don’t disclose my plans, it’s a sort of 'quirk' of mine. :) You can just be assured that they will be from games.

Andariel:

Of course, I completely understand. Yes, the more intrigue, the better. ) And speaking of games. Tell me, what are your favorite games? Are there any projects whose release you are looking forward to?

Ormeli:

Besides BioShock? :D Among the upcoming ones, of course, it’s [Mass Effect 3](/games?search=Mass Effect 3). As for my favorite games, the top spot has been and remains occupied by the third Heroes. As for the rest, much depends on my mood: sometimes it’s very nice to just run around and take out some ghoul-fascists, sometimes to get lost in a global strategy or dive headlong into a raid on a boss. Whatever my soul desires. And time allows...

Andariel:

What was your very first game?

Ormeli:

[Mortal Kombat](/games?search=Mortal Kombat) on the Dendy. :D We used to spend hours with my brother with joysticks in hand, glued to the TV. Ah, it was such a good childhood. :)

Andariel:

Ah. I never had any game consoles, I only played at friends' places. But I had a computer very early on. Can you remember what your first game on PC was?

Ormeli:

Hmm... No, I can’t remember. I only remember that when we got a PC, I didn’t touch it for a long time, but always watched fascinated as my father or brother played something; I really enjoyed that.

Andariel:

Aside from cosplay and games - what other hobbies do you have? Perhaps you collect something?

Ormeli:

Oh, I have quite a few. I do cover dances for K-Pop, as well as traditional Indian dance, play the piano, love reading about military equipment, dabble in drawing, raise birds, study Russian traditions, especially related to cooking. And I really, really love fishing.

Andariel:

Wow. I immediately want to bombard you with a whole bunch of questions, but I won’t keep you for long. You are participating in the qualifying round from the game [Mass Effect 3](/games?search=Mass Effect 3). The winners of all qualifying rounds will reach the final of the second season of [Miss Gamer](/games?search=Miss Gamer), and potential participants are expected to be ready for this event. Tell me, if you pass this round, what do you expect from the final stage of the contest?

Ormeli:

The main thing is to have a lot of fun. Such events always require a lot of energy, but in return, you gain experience in various aspects, a boost in your life energy, and pleasant memories of the work done, regardless of all the difficulties and results.

Andariel:

Last year you already participated in the qualifying round and some red brat outperformed you. ;) But I sincerely hope that this year everything will work out well and you will reach the finals. I’m rooting for you. Thank you for the interview and all the best to you. \_

Ormeli:

Yes, yes, that did happen, but it wasn’t a shame to lose to someone like that. :D Thank you very much. :)

This sweet girl works as a veterinarian. Such a useful and unusual profession. Did you think it was all about flowers and butterflies? No, there are also harsh days.
