StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is the continuation of the famous RTS from Blizzard Entertainment, fully realized in three-dimensional graphics (Havok engine). The game was released at the end of July 2010. The action takes place in the 26th century somewhere in the Milky Way galaxy. More than four years have passed since the events of StarCraft: Brood War. During this time, there have been no attacks on the Protoss or Terrans by the Zerg, and this uncertainty is quite frightening. All scouts sent to the planet Char have disappeared without a trace, failing to transmit any valuable information. Fears about the Zerg were soon justified, as the Queen of Blades, also known as Sarah Kerrigan, had been preparing for a victorious march against the Terrans and Protoss all these years. Players can expect a highly intricate plot and an unexpected finale over 26 episodes.
In StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, just like in StarCraft, players must gather resources and participate in large-scale battles. Resources can be used to build buildings and produce units. The resources are well-known: minerals and Vespene gas. The main objective is to destroy all enemy forces. StarCraft has always been renowned for its balance, and developers aimed to adhere to this rule in the new chapter of the space epic. Each unit has both strengths and weaknesses, so using the same type of combat units on the battlefield means doom is assured. There are air and ground troop types.
Much of what we could control in StarCraft was changed in StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. Old unit types are present, but their parameters and appearance have been reworked. Some were removed, but new combat units with unique characteristics and abilities have come in their place. Developers focused on mass battles with less emphasis on micro-control. The game remains dynamic, and events unfold very quickly.
What can be noted as innovations? First, a new type of resource deposits appeared – the so-called golden minerals. From these deposits, you can receive not 5, but 7 minerals at once. In addition, the number of geysers from which Vespene is extracted has increased. Their total has doubled, but the extraction takes much longer. The number of selected objects has now increased to 255, both buildings and units can be selected. For complete harmony, there are now 5 difficulty levels, making it easy to adapt to the game.
