Alexandra Bodler aka Haruhi

This girl effortlessly embodies any role, and her work leaves people around the world unmoved, even Valve has recognized her GLaDOS portrayal. To create a more complete picture, I chatted a bit with Alexandra, so the pictures will alternate with our dialogue.

- How did it all start (and when)? I mean, how did you become a cosplayer? It clearly started with some kind of hobby.

- It’s all quite banal. In 2005-2006, I was actively into watching anime, and at one fine moment, when I saw someone else's cosplay (those were photos from the 2006 Comic Market), I decided that I could do it too. And that's how it all began, and to this day (even though I’m now a whole 22 years old), I suffer from this weirdness :3

- Aside from cosplay, do you have any other hobbies? Cross-stitching and ballroom dancing don’t count.

- Yes, I draw a little, but just for myself. I also collect figures of my favorite characters from games and anime; my collection currently has about 40 figures, among them are quite old specimens, literally caught "by chance" as well as fresh ones. For example, just the other day, a branded figure of Chell from NECA (Portal 2) is going to be released, I’m really looking forward to it, as I can’t miss the chance to hug a toy Chell :3

- You have very bright and unique images; all your characters feel very "alive." Do you truly transform into them or do you remain just a regular girl in an unusual costume?

- Actually, I deeply experience each of my images (especially those I pour my soul into); my favorite character is and remains Flandre Scarlet (Touhou Project) and it is her crazy side, which is why I consider her image among all my cosplays to be the hardest and most desirable.

- Many of your characters (especially the latest ones) are quite grotesque, and some are ominous; what’s that about?

- I can’t be a cute character, and I can’t cosplay them. All cute characters have one-dimensional emotions, and that’s boring. In cosplay, I primarily value not the costume itself, but the acting that allows me to experience some strong emotions.

- I can't help but remember your GLaDOS from the game Portal; how did you come to this image? Are there any followers or maybe even plagiarists?

- Once, I was at a friend's place; he was playing the newly released second Portal, and I was peacefully sitting next to him, watching. When I heard HER voice, I thought, "MY GOD! WHAT SARCASM! HOW WONDERFUL SHE IS!" And that's it... I couldn't escape from that idea anymore; I decided, who cares that she’s not human, I’ll do a cosplay of "Humanization" :3 Well, now, many cosplay acts and artworks of GLaDOS take my image as a basis, of course, adding their own details, but I’m glad that many liked this image (it was especially pleasant when I got a message from THE VALVE :3).

- What are your future plans? Reveal a bit of the mystery, what’s next? Will it be a game or anime?

I don’t have any particular plans, as I have long wanted to quit this, but still, the next will be a cosplay of the famous pony Fluttershy, according to (saray.mov).

With that, our interview has come to an end, and in conclusion, here are a few more photos of Alexandra:

Wishing everyone goodness!
