"The Witcher 3": Walkthrough. Novigrad. Additional missions NOT related to the main plot
In addition to the main quests and additional missions closely tied to the central plotline, in "[The Witcher 3](/games?search=The Witcher 3)" there are plenty of tasks not associated with the main story. These are self-contained sketches that narrate the working days of a wandering monster hunter, to whom people turn for help in a variety of cases and situations. This post will discuss tasks available in Novigrad, Oxenfurt, and the rural areas along the right bank of the main flow of the Pontar. By recommended level, they generally correspond to the main missions of Act I in this territory, i.e., they are aimed at a not overly leveled witcher of levels 8-16. Most such tasks are reflected in the in-game Journal, but some are not recorded anywhere and appear as random occurrences. In this post, these seemingly nameless quests are marked with an asterisk.
For convenience in completing the quests, they are organized by territorial principle, as well as by recommended level. Since the recommended level for tasks not recorded in the Journal is unknown, I have tried wherever possible to indicate the level of opponents. All locations significant for completing the quests mentioned in the post are indicated on the maps of Novigrad, Oxenfurt, and their surroundings.
And before we finally get to the subject, let me say a few words about what is not included in this post. This post does not cover the completion of witcher contracts – a separate post will be dedicated to them in the future. Quests related to mini-games and oriented towards the search for witcher gear sets are not considered here, as there are already more than worthy guides on them in the blog (links to them are provided at the end of the post). Recommendations for finding various treasures are also absent. A separate guide is planned for them as well. You won’t find walkthroughs for main and side quests from the expansion "Hearts of Stone" here, although its events unfold in the territory adjoining the free city.

OLD ACQUAINTANCE
Recommended level: not specified
A nice little quest aimed primarily at those who played the first game. Quite unexpectedly for himself, Geralt receives a message from the past. This quest can be completed at any time, and it will patiently wait for you to find time to do it, even if activated.
1. The quest will begin after the first conversation with Markus Tadeusz Knut Hodgson, the owner of the bookstore "Books and Scrolls" (1), located at the northern part of the Hierarch Square.
As soon as our hero steps inside, the bookseller immediately recognizes him. The fact is that several years ago, a man who did not wish to introduce himself paid him to pass a book to Geralt of Rivia. Markus no longer remembers which exact shelf it's on, but its cover should be red. If the witcher wants to get it, he can search for it himself and also take a look at other books. How to react to the interlocutor’s words - decide for yourself.
"With pleasure" - choosing this reply will open the trading menu.
"I only need one" - the dialogue will end, and Geralt will have the opportunity to immediately start looking for the book left for him.
2. The bookstore has plenty of books with red covers, but we need just one. It is on the shelf near the beginning of the second flight of stairs and is called "My Manifesto. The Life of Jakub of Aldersberg".
Inside the tome, Geralt will find a letter addressed to him from A. The quest will be completed after our hero gets acquainted with the content of this epistolary. In addition to the memories, reading the letter will bring the witcher 50 experience points and 51 crowns regardless of his current level.
