Crysis 2 is a first-person shooter developed by the German studio Crytek. It was published by Electronic Arts. The game was released on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 at the end of March 2011. A distinctive feature of Crysis 2 is that it uses the "native" CryEngine 3, making it the first project built on this engine.
Crysis 2 has slightly changed and become more linear. The first part of Crysis offered much more freedom of action, while in the second part, you can navigate certain sections of the path in several different ways. There are a large number of objects in the locations that can be influenced in one way or another. You can kick a car, and it will fly into an enemy; you can lift heavy crates, as well as carry heavy stationary weapons and jump at different heights, performing the best acrobatic tricks in the world.
The plot of Crysis 2 unfolds several years after the events of the first game, specifically in 2023. We play as a silent marine with the call sign Alcatraz. An alien attacking the submarine, where Alcatraz and his team are, kills the entire squad except for the main character. Alcatraz is saved by Prophet, who is well known to players of the first part of Crysis. Prophet transfers his suit to him, and he himself dies from wounds and an alien virus that has devastated New York City. From that moment on, Alcatraz, under the guise of Prophet, begins a mission to save humanity from an alien invasion, periodically battling armed forces of the C.E.L.L syndicate and the Ceph, the aliens themselves.
Alcatraz possesses an extremely powerful nanosuit, which enables him to perform actions impossible for an ordinary person. Crysis 2 features a considerably modified suit compared to the first part. The appearance of the nanosuit has changed, and some of its modes have been reworked as well. In essence, the next-generation exoskeleton establishes a deeper connection with its wearer, sometimes reaching a symbiosis. Additionally, it allows connecting to alien systems.
Using the modes of the nanosuit requires energy. It is restored as before – by disabling all modes. There are a total of five modes: Power, Protection, Invisibility, Tactical Visor, and Nanosight.
The Power mode combines two modes from Crysis and has become passive. Protection still makes the nanosuit bulletproof, but it reduces movement speed and consumes energy. Invisibility allows you to stealthily move through enemy territory without being noticed. However, there remains the possibility that a closely approaching enemy might notice the player. The Tactical Visor has more extensive capabilities compared to the binoculars in the first part, enabling the identification of enemy locations, discovering a target, finding weapon and ammunition crates, as well as analyzing a particular method for traversing a section of the location. The Nanosight can be considered a thermal vision; this mode is very useful for players in dark places and when encountering Ceph, which can become invisible. Additionally, each of the modes (except for Tactical Visor) has three additional modules that can be installed during gameplay.
Overall, Crysis 2 retained all the developments that were successfully applied in Crysis and Crysis: Warhead. The shooter turned out to be just as dynamic, and most importantly – beautiful, as its predecessors. The game features a lot of weapons and different types of enemies, so everyone can get their share of enjoyment from the gameplay.
