Dofus - a tactical MMORPG built on the Adobe AIR engine. The game's appearance is isometric. The game was released by Ankama Games in 2004 and has 8 localizations; since December 2011, a Russian version has been available, operated by Mail.ru Games.
Currently, the game features 14 classes, with 2 of them planned to be available upon the opening of the Frigost continent in the Russian version. The maximum level is 200.
The game operates on a P2P (subscription) model. At lower levels, players can play for free with certain limitations: crafting levels up to level 30, some locations are closed, guild creation is disabled, and pets cannot be used.
The cost of one month of play in Europe is 5 Euros, in Russia - 180 rubles. Players also have the option to pay for the game using in-game currency; a separate currency exchange is provided for this purpose, where players can list their savings and purchase currency for subscription purposes.
The World of Twelve (named after the number of Patron Gods) is illustrated in a pleasant drawn style in the best traditions of European comics. The landscape and game objects are meticulously detailed, and all monsters and characters are rendered in vector format, allowing for scaling during gameplay without loss of quality.
The character's race in the game is identical to the class. There are a total of 14 classes in the game, 12 of which are associated with gods. By choosing a race, the player simultaneously selects their role in the game; for example, Iop serves as the classic warrior-paladin, Cra is a sharpshooter, Eniripsa is a healer, and so on. During gameplay, the player can choose a more specific specialization, acting as a tank, healer, or damage dealer.
The text component of the game deserves special mention. The names of classes, locations, character and monster names, quest texts, and books contain a huge number of anagrams and encrypted jokes. You encounter this feature right when selecting a character: for instance, Eniripsa is derived from aspirin. Each class name contains a joke or hint about its characteristics.
Combat in the game is turn-based, with two main resources - action points and movement points. Action points are spent on various spells, while movement points are used to move around the map. Essentially, combat is a tactical task focused on the most efficient allocation of points.
The character equipment system is entirely based on crafting. While useful items can still drop for players in early dungeons, by mid-game (level 60+), useful equipment becomes increasingly scarce, forcing players to either rely on their crafting skills or go to the market to purchase new gear from other players. There are a total of 22 crafting professions (both gathering and production), and a player can study up to 3 at once.
Mount breeding is also available – Drakondus. This feature unlocks at level 60 upon meeting certain conditions. This activity can become a good source of income for guilds. Money earned from selling Drakondus can be spent on new pens for them, as well as on guild houses where resources can be stored.
The game includes a large-scale PvP (Player vs Player) component. In "Dofus", there are 3 factions – Bonta (representing light), Brakmar (representing darkness), and Neutral (all other players). Besides direct confrontations and increasing PvP ratings to gain access to higher-tier equipment, Bonta and Brakmar fight for dominance over the territory of the Amakna continent and the islands around it. Established control over territory allows players to instantly teleport to prisms (faction teleporters) and grants access to resources and dungeons, which become unavailable to the opposing faction after capture. Meanwhile, guilds can unite representatives of all three factions.
