“Corsairs: To Each His Own” is a computer game within the “Corsairs” series, developed by BlackMark Studio. The release of “Corsairs: To Each His Own” took place on December 7, 2012. The game was published by the company “Akella.”
“Corsairs: To Each His Own” can be described as a greeting from the past. It is not so much a game but an addition to an addition, a modification with all the resulting consequences. The graphics, for example, present an image level that is five or even ten years old. The gameplay is not far from that of the third, or even the second, “Corsairs.” The developers also promised a complete overhaul of the controls, but this did not happen. Everything was limited to purely cosmetic changes, and among the few innovations, one can only note the newly added ability to rotate the camera around the main character. However, admiring the surrounding landscapes is still not possible – the graphics in the game, as mentioned above, have long since become outdated, irrevocably and completely.
It should be noted that “Corsairs: To Each His Own” was developed by a very small team, so expectations for any revolutionary achievements from this next project in the “Corsairs” series were low from the moment of announcement. Overall, the game has hardly changed; it largely resembles the good old “Corsairs,” which is good for seasoned fans but not so much for an audience that only knows the series by hearsay. Yes, “Corsairs: To Each His Own” features an updated interface and added small cutscenes, but this, as you can understand, cannot affect a gamer’s decision: to play or not to play “To Each His Own.” In principle, one can already discern the developers’ approach to their creative product from the very name. To each his own, indeed. An outdated project from a long-defunct series – for fans, and a not-so-appealing game about pirates – for novice gamers, who are likely to end their journey through the world of “Corsairs: To Each His Own” within the first hour of gameplay. Such is the reality.
Despite this, BlackMark Studio's creation cannot be called a failure. It is not. Encased in an unattractive wrapper is a hardcore RPG in the old-school spirit, which can captivate with a sufficiently interesting plot and moderately engaging quests. The antagonist is a certain Charles de More – an adventurer and romantic who finds himself in an unenviable situation. Arriving in the Caribbean from Old Europe in hopes of finding his little brother, he discovers that the relative owes a considerable sum of “Caribbean tugriks” to a very influential order. Naturally, for such a blunder, Charles’s brother did not receive any forgiveness, and was thrown into a dungeon to rot for eternity (or until execution). But Charles decides to rescue the poor soul from this predicament, promising the right individuals that he will find a million pesos. And from this moment, the main character's main adventures begin. To obtain large sums of money within a limited timeframe, he becomes a corsair – the terror of the seas and akiyans.
