Blog Rules and Blog Guide
The blog is growing, the number of posts is multiplying, and something needs to be done about it. It’s time to bring order to my domain, I thought, and decided to create Blog Rules and a Guide in one fell swoop. The basis was taken from a similar post I once made for Thief, so if you suddenly feel a sense of déjà vu, you shouldn’t be surprised. In anticipation of all sorts of author-reposting activities, sparked by the release of "The Witcher 3", I can't do without Rules, just as I cannot escape the unpleasant duty of separating the wheat from the chaff, alas. In principle, the same goal—to separate the worthy from the so-so articles—is served by the Guide. The cooler and more informative the material, the better its chances of making it into the Guide. But that’s not all. I propose using the comments to this post as a platform for exchanging opinions and discussions about the game and about the blog itself. Here too, I think, taking advantage of the spoiler tag, you can ask questions about the walkthrough, should the need arise before the relevant guides and manuals are published. "[The Witcher 3](/games?search=Ведьмак 3)" is a complex game, and it’s easy to get tangled in the intricacies of its various quests. In short, I’m pinning this post to the front page of the blog now and forever. Use it in good health.
1. General Provisions
1.1. The blog [The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt](/games?search=The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt) is fully subject to the Rules of the Gamer.ru portal. If you haven’t yet familiarized yourself with them, do so now!
1.2. This blog is dedicated solely to the game [The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt](/games?search=The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), and therefore, only posts specifically related to this game are allowed. For other games in the series, there are their corresponding blogs: Witcher and Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Even for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game [http://www.gamer.ru/gwent-the-witcher-card-game], there is its own blog. Trust me, they all belong to the gaming category, which means that posts published in them will inevitably appear on the main page of the site, and comments on them will be reflected in the comment feeds. Hence, posts that are not related to the game Witcher 3 will either be deleted into the trash or transferred to the corresponding blog. No hard feelings, dear friends.
1.3. The blog's viceroy has the right to evaluate the posts placed in the blog. They can be assessed positively (by attaching the Viceroy's Medal to the post) or negatively (by sinking or drowning it). The Viceroy's Medal automatically places the post in the We Recommend block and in the Recommended tab on the main page of the site. Sinking a post removes it from the front page of the blog. Drowning a post removes a newly created post from the main page of the site. Personally, I prefer to award Medals rather than to drown, though. However, this does not mean that everything you've written will be tolerated in the blog. Not at all. Personal preference is one thing, and caring for a worthy content in the blog is another. In short, sending garbage to the trash will not be a problem for me.
1.4. The Viceroy's Medal is awarded exclusively to original (!!!), information-rich, well-structured, and nicely formatted posts. In rare cases, it may be awarded to posts containing an original repost of previously published materials from other sites, portals, and resources.
1.5. Sinking and drowning are imposed on posts that contain outdated, irrelevant, unverified, and inaccurate information, rudeness, attacks on other users, etc. However, I prefer to send such posts straight to the trash so as not to clutter the blog of a good game with various rubbish (see p. 1.6 of these Rules).
1.6. The viceroy has the right to send a post to the trash. The reasons for post deletion can vary: spam, flooding, provocations, repetitions of already existing posts, low material quality, poor formatting, irrelevance to the blog's theme, plagiarism, illiterate text, and so forth.
1.7. If you doubt the legality of the viceroy's decision to sink, drown, or delete posts, check the Blogs and Viceroys tab in the Help section to ensure that your humble servant has the right to do so. And intend to use this right when necessary.
1.8. If you disagree with the viceroy's decision regarding your post, you have the right to inform me via the private messaging system. Write to me—we'll discuss how to improve the post so that it can be retrieved from the trash, unsinked, or saved from drowning.
1.9. The blog values literacy and careful attention to the rules of the Russian language. Posts with a significant number of spelling and punctuation errors will be sent to the trash, I promise. If the viceroy or other portal users point out your typos and mistakes, do not hesitate to use the menu item Post Actions/Edit. The more literate a post is, the more pleasant it is to read, and the higher the likelihood that it will get upvoted. Indifferent writers here, on Gamer, unfortunately, are not welcomed. And I as well.
1.10. Even more valued in the blog is a respectful attitude towards authors and users. Have an opinion different from what has already been expressed? No one is stopping you from expressing it, but without insults and personal attacks. Think the game is bad? Argue your position. Believe that the author poorly formatted the post, made mistakes, or missed something important? Politely comment on it in their post or send them a message. Want to start a row? I have enough Energy to enforce your enforced silence for days. :)
Know this: with the Witcher, jokes are bad.
2. Text Posts
2.1. Text posts are divided into: 1) news; 2) reviews, critiques, opinions, previews, interviews, etc.; 3) walkthroughs, guides, tutorials; 4) translations; 5) fan fiction.
2.2. General wishes for all text posts are as follows: literate Russian language, that is, minimum spelling, punctuation, stylistic, and verbal errors, enhancing the text with pictures (a wall of text is not good, not beautiful, and not something that will be willingly upvoted), authenticity (copy-pasting is evil, and evil belongs in the trash).
2.3. News posts are only acceptable in the form of rewrites. Copy-pasting news will definitely be deleted. If you want to share a news item you found on the internet with the gamer.ru community, take the effort to express it in your own words and provide your post with links to the original source(s), which, by the way, is required by section 5.1.1 of Our Portal Rules. Honestly, retelling something already known in other words is not that difficult, and the chances of earning silver or even gold for a retelling increase sharply. Example of a good news post.
2.4. Original, extensive reviews, critiques, opinions, and previews written from scratch are highly welcomed and have high chances of not only receiving a Viceroy's Medal but also a Editorial Medal. Copy-pasting others' reviews, critiques, etc., has about the same chances of being sunk, drowned, or even sent to the trash. Likewise, seemingly original reviews consisting of a couple of sentences, poorly written posts, game reviews "completed" on YouTube, and texts displaying the author's ignorance of the material and containing confusion in character names, game world topographies, item names, and artifacts will also end up in the trash. Posts consisting of a wall of text, i.e., lacking pictures, risk being sunk. If you managed to write a good, literate, and readable review or preview, don't hesitate to format it well, inserting relevant pictures, screenshots, and art between paragraphs. Posts with pictures look nicer and are upvoted more readily. Not sure what I mean? Here’s a review example worth emulating. Here is a sample of a well-structured interview.
2.5. Comprehensive, original, drafted specifically for gamer.ru walkthroughs and guides for character leveling, gear selection, finding rare items, etc., are encouraged just as much as original reviews/critiques. Just like reviews/critiques, they also have enormous chances to earn both a Viceroy's Medal and an Editorial Medal. The main requirement for guides and walkthroughs is their clarity for readers, detail, and accuracy. Don’t hesitate to support your verbal descriptions of where to go and what to find with screenshots, diagrams, and location maps. Arrows on images indicating the direction of movement or the location of a specific quest giver, item, etc., can prove more important and useful than a thousand words. Guides, manuals, and walkthroughs containing numerous inaccuracies will be deleted into the trash, my apologies. Trust me, in guide writing, I know my stuff and can distinguish between garbage and quality. Here are examples of walkthroughs, item finder guides, and hero leveling guides worth emulating.
2.6. Translations are good too. They also have a high chance of receiving both medals (from me and from the admin team). If you possess sufficient proficiency in foreign languages and can convey interesting information to those who do not, honor, praise, and a flag in your hands. The main requirement for a translation is good Russian language and absence of stylistic errors. Unedited texts from Google Translate, prompts, and other electronic assistants will be deleted without hesitation. On the other hand, translations like this will be highly welcomed by the viceroy and upvoted by readers.
2.7. Fan fiction is a rather specific genre, you could say that it is all about creativity. However, this does not mean that everything in it has to be original. Spelling and, with rare exceptions, punctuation cannot be original. Furthermore, compliance with the laws and canons of the Universe in which the fanfic is written must also be observed. This means that having guys with lightsabers appearing in the World of the Witcher is quite questionable. And don’t forget to embellish your fanfic with pictures. It will make the reading even more exciting. By the way, I have two fine examples in mind: one and the other. A fanfic that is simply an original repost from another portal or resource is, perhaps, one of those rare occasions where copy-pasting can earn a Viceroy's Medal. A good fanfic repost, to be precise.
Proper formatting and excellent content bring a special pleasure to the Witcher.
3. Video Posts
3.1. Video posts are divided into: 1) video reviews, video previews, video interviews, and video reports from the scene; 2) video walkthroughs, let's plays, etc.; 3) unboxing videos of game editions and various gaming-related loot.
3.2. General wishes for all video posts imply: quality picture and quality sound, correct speech free from filler words and numerous "uhhhh... mmm...", informativeness, original accompanying text of 500 or more characters. For example, a video titled: "How I wandered through Novigrad's brothels and admired the girls because it’s cool" is not informative and stands a good chance of getting into the trash or, if the viceroy is in a very good mood, simply getting sunk.
3.3. Original video reviews, reports, previews etc., are primarily welcomed. A foreign video reposted without your own original accompanying words amounting to no less than 500 characters will quite quickly end up in the trash. If you are posting a foreign video, take the effort to briefly describe its content in Russian. Remember, not everyone knows English. Some people learned in school and are perfectly fluent in French, German, or Spanish. If you can’t even figure out what the video is about? Then don’t post it at all. I appreciate your respectful attitude towards other users, and to your ambitions for upvotes, frankly, I don’t care, so your post with a bare video will fly into the trash and remain there. Want an example of a decent video preview? Here!
3.4. Posts featuring video walkthroughs and let’s plays will only be kept in the blog if they are complete walkthroughs of the game from hitting the New Game button to the final credits, and if they are original. You can post your videos in one post or split them into several, but the principle of completing the walkthrough must be adhered to. Posts containing "pilot" episodes created solely for advertising your YouTube channels will be deleted and sent to trash, no hard feelings. Reposts of other walkthroughs will also be deleted as the authors' rights should still be respected. In short, if you are an avid let’s player and want to post your videos on gamer.ru, take an example from this kind of post. And don’t forget the obligatory accompanying text of 500+ characters.
3.5. Unboxing can also be either original or foreign. Of course, original ones are preferable, but foreign ones are also permissible. In any case, do not forget to equip the unboxing videos with your original preamble of 500 characters. This will protect them from the greedy trash bin awaiting copy-pasting. Foreign bare videos will be sent there to be devoured without discussion. As for original bare videos, the question will be resolved on a case-by-case basis but the likelihood that they will repeat the fate of non-original videos is high. A video unboxing like this is not at risk. Everything is done simply but at a proper level. Respect to the author.
The Witcher is always "for" a creative approach to solving any problem.
4. Picture Posts
4.1. Picture posts are divided into: 1) photo reviews; 2) galleries of arts, fan arts, screenshots; 3) cosplay; 4) craft.
4.2. General wishes for all picture posts entail the following: high-quality images (images with motion blur, out of focus, smeared, with white balance violations, and small resolution are not considered high-quality), original accompanying text in 500 or more characters. In any case, a little tutorial on how to shoot will be of help.
4.3. I love photo reviews and those who make them. I also love when a post with a photo review consists not only of pictures but also contains text from the author. Don’t just show, but also tell readers what you liked or didn’t like about the reviewed collector’s item, replica, etc., what’s cool in it, and what’s trashy. Share where you managed to acquire such a rarity; perhaps someone else would want the same. Also, a photo review is a space for creativity and a great reason for a diamond (sorry, I couldn't resist).
4.4. The situation with arts, screenshots, fan arts is far more complex than with photo reviews. Posts with bare images or with a couple of sentences, like: "Look at these cool screenshots I found" will with great likelihood end up in the trash. The best way to convey your find to the portal's readers would be to format it as a news post (see p. 2.3), supplying the “cool arts” with an original text telling where and why they appeared online, why they are worth paying attention to. If you are presenting your own fan arts, tell a bit about yourself, your hobby, and gaming preferences. We would be interested to learn about another remarkable creative person joining our users.
4.5. Cosplay—how much is contained in this word for the heart of a gamer... An original cosplay post is welcomed. By original, I mean a post with cosplay that’s created either by the model-cosplayer depicted in the photos or by the author of the photographs, i.e., the photographer. Attach a brief accompanying text about yourself and how the work on the costume and props progressed, how the photo shoot went, and happiness will come your way in this blog, and guaranteed gold in your account. Perhaps even a diamond. If you intend to showcase someone else's cosplay to the public portal, special attention should be paid to accompanying words. Without them, the post will be equated to copy-pasting and will fly to the trash. Learn how to post someone else's cosplay and make it shine. And most importantly: boob cosplays have no place in my domain. Want to yank easy upvotes from schoolboys eager for female forms? Such are the services of the blog Girl of the Day.
4.6. If you are a jack of all trades and can craft an exact replica of the wolf medallion or sculpt a bust of Triss from handy materials, I would be only happy if you share your creations with the portal readers. Take photos of the process of creating your masterpiece and show it to the public. Original crafts, like original cosplay, are praised. What's more, they even earn gold. Foreign crafts, like foreign cosplays, are unlikely to be sent to the trash only if accompanied by original text of at least 500 characters. However, even writing those infamous five hundred letters, don’t count on the Viceroy's Medal. I won’t give it.
Disappoint the Witcher - expect trouble.
So there we have it, we’ve dealt with the rules. Now let’s move on to more pleasant things. The blog has already accumulated a plethora of worthy posts. To make it easier to navigate them, your humble servant has taken the liberty of compiling a Guide. An important note: not all materials have been included, only the most notable, impressive, and informative. At the same time, the more actively you fill the blog with quality posts, the more actively the Guide will be updated. If necessary, creating new sections in it will not be difficult. So, dear friends, create and write, and I promise not to overlook your delightful texts, photos, and videos. \_\_\_\_

Right now that’s all. The comments are at your disposal. Share opinions, communicate, agree on who writes what guide, etc. But, please, no bad language, otherwise a stern admin will come and spank all the bad guys with the banhammer. And don’t say later that I didn’t warn you.
