Battlefield 4 is a cross-platform computer game in the first-person shooter genre, developed by DICE and released by Electronic Arts in October 2013 for the previous (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) and current generation (Xbox One, PlayStation 4) consoles, as well as for PC.
Battlefield 4 is a direct continuation of the highly acclaimed and beloved shooter Battlefield 3, and it is the eleventh game in the Battlefield series. With the updated Frostbite Engine, named Frostbite 3, the game boasts not only the highest level of graphics but also an excellent destruction model. In Battlefield 4, you can destroy virtually everything: from ceilings inside buildings to the walls of the building itself, and that's not all. In the creation of DICE, it's even allowed to demolish entire structures, including skyscrapers – not everywhere and not all, but the fact remains. Crushing thousands of tons of concrete, glass, and steel down on your enemies is an opportunity that seemed utterly unrealistic before the release of Battlefield 4.
In creating Battlefield 4, the developers clearly followed the motto "further, more, better." Compared to previous Battlefield games, many elements have been altered, refined, and brought to perfection, but mere polish is not all. Owners of Sony and Microsoft consoles can now battle each other in 32 vs 32 matches, meaning the number of players is now the same as on PC. Unfortunately, only owners of the next-generation consoles, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, can participate in such large-scale battles. The rest, excluding, of course, PC players, have to settle for less – the maximum that Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners can participate in is 12 vs 12 matches.
To be completely honest, the maximum number of players on one map reaches 66, not 64. How does that happen? The fact is that in Battlefield 4, the Commander mode from Battlefield 2 has returned – updated and modernized, but still well-known. Two commanders + 64 players = 66. The math is simple. As before, the commander mode is aimed at close interaction between ordinary fighters participating in the battle and the officers who have a map in front of them. The commander coordinates the actions of the soldiers and tries to turn the tide of battle in favor of himself and his team, not only by words but also by actions. For example, an officer can call for support on the battlefield in the form of cruise missiles or helicopters, but he cannot do this just like that – first, his subordinates need to fulfill some condition – for instance, capturing a control point, guided again by the advice of the higher authority. Yes, everything is interconnected.
In addition to the stunning multiplayer mode, the game features an engaging single-player campaign, which can serve as good training before online battles. However, the multiplayer campaign still cannot be surpassed, no matter how splendid it is. What else should be noted? Battlefield 4 introduces a third side to the conflict – China, and with the new country come unique, previously unseen weapons and technologies. Of course, the combat arsenals of the USA and Russia have also undergone some changes; the same applies to both ground and air equipment.
