Fallout: New Vegas is what Fallout 3 should have been but wasn't. The latest game in the Fallout RPG series.
Fallout: New Vegas is not a direct sequel to Fallout 3, although it is built on the same technical foundation and does not differ too much from the latter in terms of mechanics and gameplay. The story connection between Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3 is minimal—some events from Fallout 3 are mentioned in the game. None of the characters from "three" appear in Vegas. On the contrary, Fallout: New Vegas includes much of what was present in the first two Fallout games and what Fallout 3 lost at the time. You can list old acquaintances and representatives of factions from the first two games in the series. The game is generally filled with elements, plot decisions, and features that were supposed to appear in the canceled Fallout 3, which these developers were working on at the time.
Overall, Fallout: New Vegas became much closer to both the first games in the series and the real world. Take, for example, the weapons—instead of strange specimens from Fallout 3, we see quite realistic “guns,” which clearly show where their heritage comes from. It is worth noting a small but very noticeable improvement in the weapon mechanics: enhancements like additional scopes, lightweight receiver cases, high-capacity magazines, and more.
The VATS system has hardly changed, with the only new feature being unique animations for some types of weapons.
The system of crafting (and disassembling) various items, from food to ammunition, has gained great importance. Speaking of food, a "hardcore" mode is included in which the character needs to eat, drink, sleep, and ammunition and gear have weight. Long live realism!
