Character Classes.
From the Author (i.e., from me).
This class description is purely my subjective opinion. The opinion about the classes is based on my gaming experience, and almost all classes were tested in the first location.
I played the game with two classes: Battle Mage and Rogue, so I will focus on them in more detail.
A few terms that I will use:
Tank - a character whose duty is to hold mobs (enemies) and prevent them from hitting more vulnerable characters. It is characterized by high defense and a large amount of health. Damage (damage dealt) is usually average (in this game).
Off-tank - a character, usually a "tanky" DPS, who can assist the tank in holding mobs (taking some hits), and should also take the mobs off poorly defended classes.
DPS - damage dealer, a character that deals damage, a lot of damage, to the enemy. There are: melee - damage dealt in close combat and ranged - damage dealt at a distance.
Healer - a character who can not only restore health to teammates but, in this game, can also heal injuries (wounds) and poisons.
Social Class - a character created for communication with NPCs, necessary to unlock all possible quests and additional branches in dialogues. Having such a character allows you to experience the game more fully.
Discussion about classes is welcome; I would love to hear your opinion.
Special thanks to sergiyseriy for the provided screenshots.
Introduction.
At the very beginning of the game, you choose the class of the main character of the game; this is the class you will play, and you cannot change it. Of course, you will have an entire party that you can assemble to your liking during the game, thus smoothing out possible mistakes in choosing the main character's class, but only certain classes will be available among possible party members, although I admit that all the main classes are there.
This somewhat frees you up, allowing you to choose the main character to your taste, but let me give you a few tips.
The character's gender only affects their appearance; the stats are not gender-dependent. (Personally, I chose female characters for aesthetic reasons; they look very nice:))
Let's move directly to the classes:
Warrior
I won’t provide a literary description of classes, as it can be well seen in the screenshots.
The Warrior is an excellent off-tank. It has a high health stat, good protection (due to heavy armor), and decent damage (especially if given a two-handed sword).
I would recommend it to beginner players since it’s relatively easy to play; it takes a hit well and can deliver painful retaliatory damage.
However, I wouldn’t recommend it as the main tank because:
In the second location (in the city), a gnome will join us. This gnome is objectively the best tank in the game. But more on gnomes later.
but as an off-tank, it is perfectly suitable.
Archer
I’ll be brief (and for some classes, I will be very brief :)) - do not take it.
In melee combat, it is very weak, and as a shooter, it’s not the best.
From the elf you can take into the team in the marshes, you can, if desired, make an excellent archer.
The ability to understand and persuade will only come in handy if you want to make it a social character, but there are much better candidates for this role. I’ll remain silent about stealth.
Soldier
Very similar to the Warrior, but the emphasis is shifted towards dealing damage. It has less health than the Warrior, and we have no need for social skills (I repeat, there are better candidates for social characters), and the damage is not significantly higher than that of the Warrior (and actually only noticeably at the beginning of the game).
If you decided to play as an off-tank, I still recommend taking the Warrior, in my opinion it will be more useful than the Soldier.
Battle Mage
One of the classes I played. I had colossal pleasure from playing this class.
I would recommend this class to beginners. It has many advantages.
Any spell will almost certainly deal damage to the target. At the beginning of the game, this is especially noticeable when others often miss, the mage hits, and hits very hard (on the enemy).
The mage knows many spells, not only damage-dealing ones but also buffing allies (and himself) and debuffing enemies (weakening them). By the end of the game, you will have an enormous number of available spells.
Also, only the Battle Mage can learn the strongest spells.
I particularly note the wonderful spell Fireball, starting from about the middle of the game, many groups of enemies will either not even reach you or will come in such a "damaged" state that other allies can easily finish them off.
By the end of the game, my mage not only dealt significant damage to enemies, not only buffed the group but could also easily act as a tank. Under all the buffs, his defense and evasion were slightly inferior to tank stats (the only difference being he didn't have a shield, and his health, of course, was noticeably lower than that of a tank).
The Battle Mage - deals high damage (including to groups of enemies), possesses a full range of buffs and debuffs, and is extremely resilient.
Of course, you can hire a mage for your party, but they will only be available for hire in the middle of the game.
Healer
One of the most essential classes in the game. Any mage can learn healing, but this one is a professional at it. He heals not only with spells but also uses various medications very well (healing injuries and poisons).
If you choose him, you will have no problems healing the group from the very start.
I personally preferred to wait until the elf joined; by taking an elf into the team, I made her the main healer without sacrificing her qualities as an excellent archer.
Rogue
This class is also one I played.
I believe this class is the best choice for creating a Social character. Excellent social skills, once leveled up, will open up the entire role-playing aspect of the game for you.
At the same time, he possesses thieving skills and lockpicking skills, which will be an undeniable asset in the game. He also has pretty good damage and can successfully serve as a melee DPS. He also has access to some magic.
For those who want to fully immerse themselves in the diversity of quests - I recommend this class.
Wanderer
Another contender for the title of the best social class. But I still believe that it leans more towards a rogue side.
In general, I chose Rogue as a social class, but the Wanderer is also decent in this matter, so the choice is yours.
Locksmith
His main skill is his ability to excellently pick locks and disarm traps. He also always has high discounts with merchants (but this is not particularly useful since by the end of the game, you will have plenty of money and won’t know what to do with it :)). He also has high observational skills.
The Locksmith will join you on the very first map, but he will disappear upon entering the city, and to get him back, you will need to complete a series of quests.
Thief
Among the three rogue classes, this character is the best at picking pockets. He is good at sneaking and, if necessary, can pick locks and disable traps.
In combat, he is not very useful, uses a dagger, and has very low health. He is also not well suited for the role of a social character.
In general, I do not recommend him.
Elementalist
Almost entirely inferior to the Battle Mage, but just almost ...
He has a wonderful ability - to summon a fire elemental. This ability makes this class very strong at the beginning of the game. The fire elemental can handle small groups of enemies single-handedly. But, by the middle of the game, you will notice that the elemental will die more and more often, and by the end of the game, its help will be minimal.
So, if you prefer mages, I would still recommend the Battle Mage.
Meta-Wizard
In common parlance - Necromancer :)
Very similar to the Elementalist, but: summons not an elemental but the undead. Otherwise, it has the same pros and cons as the Elementalist.
And also, the Meta-Wizard has very high magic resistance, making him a killer of mages :)
Alchemist
Don’t take him; everything he can do, other characters can do too, and they do it better (nature knowledge, healing, etc.).
Pirate
Could have made a great tank if there were no gnomes in the game.
Positives - a large amount of health, negatives - low magic resistance.
I do not recommend taking him; there are much more useful classes.
Amazon
Do not take this class! The first character available for hire is the Amazon.
Ranger
Well, what can I say. This is an archer, an excellent ranged DPS, with exquisite nature knowledge and various beasts, can heal ... everything’s great, but I do not recommend taking him, the reason is in the spoiler.
In the marshes, let’s take the elf; she can heal, shoot with a bow, and knows nature like the back of her hand.
Sorcerer
Another representative of the elves. An elven version of the battle mage, inferior to the Battle Mage in everything, so I do not recommend taking him.
Fighter
Elven tank. And as we know, elves make terrible tanks. So it is here, little health, and all in all ...
I do not recommend him; both tanks and DPS are much better.
Gnome Soldier
This is the best tank in the game. But ... don’t take him!
In the second location (in the city), we will be joined by a gnome-soldier!!!
Sapper
As a tank, he is inferior to the Gnome-soldier, but can use two-handed axes excellently and is a great blacksmith, can disarm traps and find gems. But, for the reasons stated in the above spoiler, his value sharply decreases.
Scout
Clearly inferior to the previous gnome classes, only differs by nature knowledge, but that doesn’t save him.
Do not take.
Well, that seems to be it.
To Summarize:
I played as a Battle Mage and a Rogue (as a social class), but as you can see, everyone can choose the class that suits them best. My reasoning is not the "truth in the final instance"; they remain my thoughts and recommendations :)
Let's discuss ...
